page scrolling of mame games with joystick?

Is there a way to have left/right on the joystick work as page up/down within gameex only to scroll faster thru the mame games list? I have to get out the keyboard now to do it. Those little page arrows are too slow. I looked in the customcontrols setup but i was a little confused. Using an Ipac2, but i want its functions to be normal under mame (up, down, left, right). My previous frontend (mamewah) did this.

Turn on Alpha paging. Then you can hold down the paging button and it will scroll by page with left/right and first letter with up/down. If you really want it to be *just* left/right for this rather than holding the button and left/right, you could put together a AHK script that would intercept commands if the right window is open (GameEx is in the title). I personally think this might cause some unexpected results, so I wouldn't.

Well I hold one of my buttons (player1 #1) and hit left or right, and it goes to the next or previous letter. Should it be going by page or letter?

If you go left/right, it goes by letter. If you go up/down, it goes by page. You can do either on the fly!
