Screen just goes black when i boot up a rom

Hello there, im new to the gameEx frontend and i decided today to use it since it added so much more depth to your rom collection to be able to let it show you Box/screenshot scans etc. But ive used all day today to set it up, it wasnt as hard as ive heard but i have a problem with it. When i choose "play game" on a rom it shows me a minimized version of the emulator ive directed from the "working path" box and the "Command Line" box which i presume are right?

The problem is it shows me a minimized version of the particular emulator, but after a coup seconds it goes full screen and i instead just get a Black Screen with no sound whatsoever. Ive tried alot of different combinations like putting roms and emulators in folders that are close together and making all the folder names "without spaces" in their names with no luck.

This is my specs:

Windows SP-2

AMD Athlon64 X2 3800+

1gb DDR ram

256mb Radeon X600

6gb HD free

Downloaded GameEx Version : 8.88

Im not sure if im allowed to mention the name of the romset, but it was build on a NES(Famicom) romset with the "No Intro" box/screenshot scans

Pls help me ive used all day and i dont wanna quit after seeing those lush screens with the rom boxes and stuff :(

Try getting the emulator running okay outside of GameEx first. Also with most emulators you have to set them up to launch in fullscreen mode.

Are you using an emu config that is included with GameEx or creating one from scratch. What emulator are you trying to run?

Ive tried these 3 Emulators today with the NES Famicom "No Intro" romset : Jnes, FCEUltra and VirtualNes. All of them goes to a black full screen after i did the thing you said by setting the emulators to go to full screen automatically in their own settings. Only VirtualNes gets some bar in the top where you can press "open file>> then select some .zip rom" and then open it by this way. The emulators themselves ran fine when i tested them outside gameEx and opened a single rom.

Im not sure about what you mean with the emuconfig, are u meaning the part where i can download the emulators in the "gameEx setup wizard" when i first installed gameEX? If so, no i didnt download any, i had a "Emulator Collection" i got from some p2p a while back, it has most of the emulators out there and i just showed its directory path after configuring the NES library in GameEX configuration menu

Ok it doesnt sound as though you are loading and roms..

I use nestopia

my command is nestopia.exe "[rompath]/[romfile]"

This "[rompath]/[romfile]" is where gamex pulls its data from your config.

example.... my rompath is d:\roms\nes

example... my romfile is the game I called.. Supermario.nes

in essence gameex is running nestopia.exe "c:\roms\nes\supermario.nes"

Thus loading the game.

If you are confused please verify your command has the latter statment.. and goto your gamex progrmagroup. Edit the run last game/bat ( you schoos edit from hte right click menu" You can see axacty hot gameex tried to run the emu.

Its not hard once you get used to it.

Actually I didn't mean downloading the emu's via the Setup Wizard, I mean use the built in emu profiles. These have the correct command line parameters for most popular emu's out there already included so you don't have to create them from scratch. All you have to do is point them to the correct working path and emulator path.

Thx for all ur help guys and sry for writing back so late. Im not that good with computers in general so it took me a while before i got it working but it was worth all the time i used, it works really great now and the thumbnail description really helped me a lot as i must have overseen the ability to use preset emu configs. But i have another question, i got the nestopia working with the roms but after i added the snes roms to the znes emu config, i had to unzip a particular game to be able to start it up in gamex, is there any possibility to start up the game without having to unzip each game? Once again thx for all the help it wasnt that hard like u guys said, except the "command line" confused me a bit since i havent seen this in other frontends or emulator setups

I use zsnes and I dont have to unzip my roms.. is your rom filter *.zip?

In general, if the files are compressed when you get them, they should be usable that way. For example, Sega Master System roms are not zipped and I don't think any emulator can run them zipped. MAME roms are zipped and will not run if they aren't zipped. There are ways to store them compressed and extract them at runtime to save HDD space, but that's another story...

oh k i can see u have to write .zip in the "romfilter" at the emulation setup. Thx for all the help, now i can have the Megaman marathon ive wanted since 98 :)
