Okay now I know someone suggested this pack prior...and I for one didn't try it then...but I have since...and frankly I'm impressed...after solving some user error issues...namely I had Xvid installed on my system when I shouldn't have.

Anyways I'd like to suggest others giving it a spin and seeing what they think of it.

CCCP Web Site

The site has some good documents on it...and active forum...which by the way if you go there now you can see me posting about my bumblings...and having a blond moment the whole time...tho there isn't much of my blond hair so that should come to an end before to long. :)

Probably the nicest thing for me was to actually predefine what lang tracks and subs to use in video's...I don't have many...but the ones I do...have been a pain in the ass prior.

Let me know what you think.

Oh should you be one of the few unlucky that have your video display upsidedown...there is a setting that will correct it for you.

CCCP is one of the only packs I will use. Never tried klite... but between ffdshow and CCCP I havent really had a problem playing anything.

Well CCCP I know now uses FFDShow as its core codec...so installing it is all you need.

LB11 if you where the one that suggested CCCP prior...many thanks...if not...hehe thanks anyways. :)

I honestly don't recall who made the suggestion.

heheh... anyone using the old KLite codec packs should:

10 check

20 goto 10

RUN

...their boxes for trojans & rootkits.. a couple of mirrors were compromised _years_ back, so it was hit & miss as to whether any bad stuff was in the install .exe.. A *lot* of those codec packs were trojan transports...

Back in Kazaa's heyday, certain groups (black hat types, organised crime, etc) flooded the network with suggestively named (porn - its all about porn) .wmv files, which usually redirected you to an infected website to "acquire a license" - when people cottoned on to what was happening, they stopped downloading them... so those groups started putting out vids which needed a special codec to be played, which gave them a new carrier mechanism for their spyware/etc.. Some packs were legit, most were not :P

thanks for the tip re: CCCP, am curious to see how it stacks up against the latest FFDShow tryouts!

Yes I remember well.

I refuse to use ANY p2p like kazza, limewire, emule etc.. Too many viruses.

I can say I DO use trendmirco and have never had any problems with the k-lite codec pack.

from: http://www.free-codecs.com/K_Lite_Codec_Pack_download.htm

k lte codec pack is NOT kazaa lite. It is not to be confused by the p2p virus machine sharing a similar name

NOD32 user here. :)

I rarely use eMule (Plus) or DC++ (CZ) anymore...but I do still use them.

Bearshare & WinMX are both giant virus hives.

eMule can be a little rough some times.

Never tried Kazza or LimeWire.

Prior to GameEx I mostly ran ether K-Lite or XP Codec Pack.

Well I've used Beta 2 Tryout...and right now I'd say CCCP is a better product..could just be the default settings used by CCCP...don't know...Beta 3 Tryout blew-up on me...so can't say.

I think I may have mentioned it when someone was having a problem playing mkv files. But I dont know.

I usually get a different version of ffdshow than whats included. But they should all work the same!

now if i could only figure out why my stock tinyxp platinum2 w/ wmp11 and cccp + nv purevideo .. and about nothing else besides gameex and some emus... hangs when i go anywhere near a video in gameex =)

Posted

I'll install purevideo later tonight and see if there are any issues...if there are none I'll be pointing lots of fingers at tinyxp. ;)

I run winxpMCE + Purevideo + CCCP + WMP11 on my HTPC and dont have any problems in gameex.

When I had GameEx playing the audio, it seemed to hang. I also disabled a few of the other codecs (divx, xvid, etc.) through CCCP. Works great now!

If I don't disable the audio for video snaps in GameEx it hangs on me too.I would love to be able to hear the audio from my vidio snaps.I've heard about disabling divx and xvid codecs for a fix.But if i do this don't that mean i won't be able to play them types of files on my pc anymore?

Does the CCCP pack not have a program called something like Insurgent to remove any other previously installed codecs ? I'd imagine that if you uninstall previous codecs and install CCCP everything should work fine. I'm just guessing here but that's what i'd try in your case.

I think your misunderstanding things just a bit...your not actually disabling the Divx & Xvid codec's...your disabling CCCP from handling those file types....err FFDShow I mean.

FFDShow can typically handle displaying Divx & Xvid...so that those codec's aren't required. However some have experienced issues and thus do install Divx or Xvid & disable FFDShows handling of those files.

Now keep in mind typically you don't need Divx installed if you have Xvid installed...and from what I understand what variations of Divx, Xvid doesn't handle...you typically don't want on your system anyways.

Basically Xvid is a freeware codec replacement for Divx....FFDShow is a freeware replacement for Divx and a host of other codec formats.

So unless some product that your very fond of requires Divx...it shouldn't be on your system...as Xvid or FFDShow replace it.

Its been a while since I've ran Insurgent but if I recall it mainly checked to see if a codec was being handled...and by whom...along with if ones system was properly setup & could handle the FFDShow codec....but I very easily could be wrong. :)

Hehe its been a while like I said. :)

Cheers for pointing that out bud. Just remember reading about 'Insurgent' briefly somewhere and may of misinterpreted it's use. FFDShow works fine for me and i don't like to experiment too much - it normally leads to catastrophy for me

Ewwww, Mamewah

Actually, there's lots of people who use it and love it, but it's a bitch to set up. I found GameEx and, although I've still looked at other stuff since, nothing else comes close!
