sudden gamex failure: not exiting to any emulator?

Hi. I have been a registered user of gamex for many months and have been enjoying using the software.

Yesterday my gamex would not load any game (emulator or mame). Just goes to blank screen with game sound. ( have tried show desktop no good).

it is as if Gamex is not exiting to the emulator as i still get my custom soundtrack + game sound + black screen (any emulator any rom) and these have all been working fine for months.

( i have not changed any settings in gamex for this to happen it just did one day.)

Did you upgrade MAME or your other emulators recently? You said you didn't do anything, but GameEx has the option to update on launch. Do you have that enabled? Did you try the 'Run Last Game' item in the GameEx Start menu (if it runs there, then it's not the emulator)? Is there an error log?

I have update enabled but had been playing since update so not that. Run last game will run game but black screen +sound. no error log, gamex thinks all as fine. it is as if gamex doesnt get out of the way to let emulator or mame play. they are running in task manager but cannot be displayed when boot ing them from gamex.

if that makes sense.

Run last game.bat should NOT hide desktop... There might be something else going on..

Check drivers.

Sorry my mistake, goes black and returns to desktop. I have just discovered that all my emulators, zsnes, kega, VBA all have given up working in full screen. they keep minimizing themselves to taskbar. Updated nvidia drivers but still same. strange that all emulators have same problem outside gamex.

Just for the info i have fixed problem. A little box in the display properties troubleshooting called "Enable Write Combining" was checked. Unchecked this box and everything works fine now. (strange i didnt check box in first place). stroke of luck as this was a stab in the dark.
