I have an unusual problem. Every time an update comes down, it messes with video playback. The videos will start but only the sound will play and the timer for the play back will stop at 5 seconds. I have to re-install ffdshow every time and it fixes the issue, but it becomes annoying having to install ffdshow practically everyday. Thought, comments, ridicule?

Thanks!

The point I am making is that I should be able to have automatic updates on and not have this issue.

I was being sarcastic... Sorry

Im not sure the fix... I was only offering an alternative to a "daily" issue your having :)

I really wasn't aware that gameex overwrite video codecs. As it has never done that to me.

No offense here. ;) I figured as much.

I didn't think so either. But every time an update occurs it happens. It's really weird. I have turned off the auto updates for a while now. Just thought I would throw the issue out here and see what happens.

For awhile now the only codec that I have installed on my cabinet has been xvid alone. I have never had a problem since I quit using the codec packs like ffdshow. Just my two cents....

Because I don't have the money to purchase a video codec converter nor the time to actually do the converting, I need to be able to play any codec that comes my way. So having only one codec is not an option.

Hmm I don't know if I'm having the same issues but I also do have the Avi files for previews and the Video consistanty studders, every 4-5 secs it freezes and continues to play. I tried different ffdshow updates and only the main one on GameEX actually works. I can't stand the studder for every video. Where does GameEX update anyhow? I don't see the setting?
