I use the regular command line version of mame, The problem I am having is that I just updated from 1.08 to 1.18 and now the games all start and show the rom info but dont go any farther than that. All I did was rename my 1.08 folder and install the new 1.18 folder with the old name. Is there something else I should have done? (I did update the list in gameex)

Download the mame 118 patch I made located here on the forum.. http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?showtopic=4046

Mame has changed its input system and doesnt like the way gameex inserts O and K to bypass automatically.

Works perfect! Thanks Again!

One question now. I just tried it and noticed that I was able to push esc in the menus and it didnt immediately exit. Once I got out of the menus it exited on the next esc press. Why does that happen? I would like that in other emus.

It's a feature of the emu.. I like it too :)

Maybe a good feature request would be the ability to have gammex prompt an are you sure dialog when you press ESC and of course have map keys enabled.. This way it would prompt before it closes the process.. And it would be toggled off and on either by emu or by the enable and disable features...

Of course not everyone would like it

:)

Im glad to help!

I seem to have a new problem now....

The new mame does not pick up the key presses from xpadder! Does anyone know of a solution for this?

Please redo your input config..in mame.

This was warned about in the above thread.. You gotta love mame ..Take something that works ..break it all to hell in the name of improvment.. :)

Seroiusly though its a 10 min fix

Do I have to do something manually? I reset all my settings from within mame. But it doesn't recognize when I press a button through xpadder.

I.E. Xpadder has button 9 set to keyboard 5. Keyboard 5 is set to coin1 in mame. But I press button 9 on joypad and nothing happens. xpadder shows it recognizes the key press.

Well, if anyone else has this problem,

This is a quote fromt he xpadder dev:

"From the MAME changelog:

"Changed the Windows implementation of input handling to fully support the raw input interfaces for keyboard and mouse. DirectInput is still used for all joystick inputs, as well as for keyboard and mouse inputs on pre-Windows XP systems. This allows for multiple keyboards and mice to be supported."

If MAME is reading the raw input then it's reading at a lower level than Xpadder is writing. I've tried playing Pang in the newest MAME on Vista and Xpadder does not work Crying or Very sad

I'm guessing that there are a lot of people out there who use Xpadder with MAME so I'll focus my attention on this issue now."

It is possible to inject keys into Mame's Raw Input system (I've done it), but why would you want to anyway? Just map the keys in Mame, or am I missing something?

BTW It is low level stuff and it would have to be worth it to bother adding such a feature to Xpadder.

I liked this feature of Xpadder as I have all my retro pads settup to use a default key set so that at anytime I can plug any pad into my cabinet and it will control whatever game in whatever emulator I happen to be playing

Yup thats why.

If I had controllers that were static then I could just use mame mappings. But if you change around the controllers then mame looses the right settings (I.E. player 1 controller becomes player 2 or 3 or whatever. depends what windows decides should be first). I haven't tried with the newest release, but the older ones did that to me.

Believe me, I would love for mame to handle all that stuff for me. Then I could use analog stuff and plug in the racing wheel every once in a while etc. :D

Do yourself a favor ..Download a newbuild put it in its own dir...copy one or two roms over.. and see if you can unplug and plug in new controllers...

This way you will know before making a major transition

Im going to try. Mostly the problem is that if you have 4 controllers plugged in for example, windows will always make controller 4 joystick 1, and maybe controller 2 joystick 2, and controller 3 joystick 4 etc. If the buttons dont match on each controller then mame will just see joystick 1 button 1 does this. button 2 does this etc. Now get a controller with different keys and the buttons wont go with what the should.

Its very confusing to me sometimes, so I can only imagine what you are thinking of me right now, hahaha

xpadder goes off of the device id...so iy will always map the right keys to the right button.

so if controller 2 a is player3 it wii alys be p3 no matter where its plugged in..

Am I missing somthing?

xpadder does, yes which is why I use it. mame does not. As of right now, the new version of mame wont work with xpadder. I'm just using 117, not that big of a deal, but eventually after they make more changes to mame I'm sure I would like the newest version.
