nonMAME

With special thanks going out to Brian, I've now been peaked to intrest in these "nonMAME" romsets. I've got GameEx configured to use the right program, but it still only lists those roms which are on the official MAME release list. How can I get these nonMAME sets to display inside GameEx also? One game in particular is Pong. It doesn't show up in GameEx, but is a working, playable game through the program alone.

Lol! :) It's still a valid question though isn't it? I mean, NONE of the nonMAME sets show up.

Well you can try the donot filter..But Im not sure that will work.. I also tried editing the GAMELIST in the gameex folder... Man did I mees it up... Good thing I copied it first... If I find a way I will let you know

I found one possible solution, but may require Tom's involvement. There is a command in the MAME32 Plus! GUI:

Options->Export Game List...

This creates a file (unless renamed) called "mame32us.lst" which is stored in the \<mame>\lang folder. When I opened this up in Notepad, it appears to be a simple listing of the games. It almost looks like a converted "verify.dat" which indicates if a game is working or not. There has to be a way to get a gamelist that GameEx can play with.

Wasn't there a command line function in MAME that allows you to export the game list to a file? And this file is what GameEx uses when building the game list? Maybe MAME32 Plus! has a similar command line function that we can use instead?

Use a map file?

Well you can regex a clrmamepro dat file...which is what I normally do then tweak from there if need be.

I've attached a macro for UltraEdit32 that will regex the dat file for you...provided you own UE32.

If there is interest I can post the regex in ether Unix or Pearl format.

You guys will also need to hook me up with this nonMame stuff...as its different from my understanding of it.
