I have to confess to being a newbie but I think I am pretty close. GameEx fires up OK and I can browse through the list of games but after a minute or two GameEx crashes with a DirectX error. I have made sure I am using the default theme and that the codecs are installed etc. I have installed the most up to date video driver available. not sure what to do next.

I am running my PC within a Arcade Cab using an IPAC and standard 20" PC monitor.

Thanks.

I think the problem is the available video memory. It says you have originally 30mb video memory and after GameEx has loaded all the graphics it says you have 0.

You can make gameex use less video memory by doing all or some of the following:

Turning off "Advanced Graphics"

Running at 640x480 resolution instead of 800x600

Running at 16 bit colour

Turning off MAME ICONS

These settings are in the advanced config app, under display setting.

Hey thought I'd chime in with this.

http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/98me/radeonaiw-98me.html -Latest Video Dirvers for your OS and video card... Its 6.2 ..not sure what you have now

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en

(Latest direct X you OS supports according to M$)

The newest gameex is 8.75 located on the download page. Your log states you are running 8.69

http://www.gameex.net/Downloadgameex.aspx

You can see what direct x you are running by either clicking on START/RUN "Dxdiag" or "DXINFO" Cant remember which I know they chagned it at one point.

Also what Tom said is probably correct.. You might be getting the direct error due to the fact there is no video memory left to draw..

Maybe turining off video/snap previews would help also...This is stretching though

Is it an onboard video? if so go into your BIOS and allocate more system ram to video memory.

Thats all I can think of for now.

Good Luck

Can you please get back and let me know if that worked? As no doubt others have the same problem.

Thanks.

Tom

Tom

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you but I went ahead and replaced my graphics card (128mb) and then replaced the gameex.exe which does seem to have worked. Thanks very much.

I do seem to now get an error in windoes that gameex.exe has caused an error in user.exe. I don't suppose you can point me in the right direction on this one by any chance?

Thanks,

Michael

Can you be a bit more specific with the error?

Can you be a bit more specific with the error?

When I select any game and launch it, it seems OK at first and then before I get any game graphics displayed the scrren blanks and a windows error is displayed saying:

gameex has caused an error in user.exe Gameex will now close etc.....

I select OK and all I can then doo is power off and reboot the PC.

Create a new user acct and try running it under the new user...

Maybe a spyware / malware / whatever ware issue.

This is probably not very helpful in fixing the problem, but I dont think it is the video memory. I have gameex working on a laptop with 8mb video memory on a rage pro 2x agp video. Of coarse thats with all the display options turned down. But I dont get that error.

Was there a resolution on this? I am running 8.88 and encountering the same type of error when browsing through my album lists using the WMP library w/jukebox. Sorry to resurrect this thread if it was supposed to be dead. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The log appears to show plenty of video memory. It is also a brand new install with new drivers, and no virus/spyware issues.

Well there a couple of those things I am not too clear on. Would we consider a 7600GS non modern? Also, I have tried several different themes, but I am unclear as to which one is best used at 1080i diplay redolutions. As for the rest my Directx is:

DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

And my Video drivers are:

[Display]

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3600+ (1908 MHz)

Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP (Service Pack 2)

DirectX version: 9.0c

GPU processor: GeForce 7600 GS

ForceWare version: 162.18

Memory: 256 MB

Video BIOS version: 5.73.22.50.02

IRQ: 19

Bus: PCI Express x8

Thank you for such a quick response, it seems like you all have a great community, and I have been very pleased with GAMEEX even with the jukebox crashes. It seems to be the perfect solution for my kids to play games, watch videos or listen to music. Cheers!

What is your desktop resolution?

Launch gameex advanced config...located in the programs group

Choose display settings.

Put in your current desktop resolution... And tell gameex not to change it...

Did you try a diffrent theme aswell?

That is my 1080i resolution, and I have tried 3-4 different themes, all with the same result. I wonder if it has something to do with my library size, I have something like 750+ albums, and it doesn't seem to crash on anything but the jukebox.

Can you try connecting a normal monitor so we can rule out the obscure resolution?

Id run it at 800x600

Also I've seen jukebox crash whe its trying to place artist/track info outside the boundry of the boxes..

You can try using the theme editor to make the boxes larger.

Follow up:

As the primary monitor my lcd set at 800x600, 1024x768, and 1280x1024 do not exhibit the problem. Therefore it looks like I anger gameex with both my custom 1080i resolution on the HDTV, as well as the standard 1920x1080 (1080i) resolution. If I scroll slowly through the jukebox list (ie 1 item at a time), it does not crash. It appears that gameex reaches some buffer max or something as I scroll quickly. Anyways, I can live with slow scrolling if need be, just wanted to post my results. Maybe I am one of few running 1080i, or maybe I am just cursed. Cheers all and thanks for the help.
