Steam Valve??

Hi to ya all hope all is well.

Right just a silly Question, is it possible to run a game from steam in GameEX as I have just puchest

the ID pack with doom and classic wolf+quake ans all the rest it would be nice to be able to lanch these grate games in GameEX.

You can create game shortcuts these could be run through gameex the shortcuts load stream up

just right click on the game in steam and short cut to desktop

also if you want counterstrike you can set a direct server link up by using a shortcut with the following path

steam://connect/xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:port

xxx being the IP of the server

I remember when I bought Counter Strike and took it home. Messed around with Steam for half an hour. Signed up, then tried the game. And it told me it was an invalid serial number. I loath Steam with a passion. I ended up having to get a pirate version of the game just so I could play it. Still wouldn't work on the Internet though.

Update!!

I can play all games from link in my folder at desk top.

But in gameEX you select a game then it begins to load but put's you back to gameEX.

You do see steam start to launch the game but gameEX will not let it finsh loading the game.????

Set show desktop to true. See if you can see what is going on. Also in the stragt menu tree for gameex try running the RUNLASTGAME.bat

What happens then?

I also notice what micheal said about "C:\Valve\Steam.exe -applaunch 240" being the counter strike game.

Gameex will launch the game..When the gameecloses gameex will regain focus..

In this case its STEAM.exe once the actual game launches steam probably closes. Then gameex thinks its done and returns. try making a bat file call the lnk.

Of course Iam assuming this is the way steam functions.. I donot actually use it..

Not to good at bat files. and your right about gameex, thinks it has quit but its just seam closing

Its a pain as you can not even run the games without steam running

Where do I obtain (Legally) Steam... So I can see what it take to get this going?

Google it m8 or puchase Halff life 2 and you get counter strike free pluss the steam app.

I dont think you can get steam by it's self though!!

Ok, for all you people who are using Steam, here's what you do...

Tell Steam to create a shortcut to the game on your Desktop. Then, move all these shortcut links (*.lnk) into a folder, call it STEAM if you want. Now, setup your GameEx to have an emulator called STEAM (of course), and set it up with the working path and rom path pointing to that folder you created. Now, set the rom filter to *.lnk. Command line is [ROMPath]\[RomFile]. Setup your artwork paths if you want to. On page 2, make sure you have Map keys set to NO, and Show Desktop set to YES. On Page 3, you want the "Launch After" to point to the following BAT file:

taskkill /f /im Steam.exe

Save the BAT file as something simple, like "CloseSteam.bat". This will kill the Steam application completely. The /f is the flag to tell it to FORCE close the application, regardless of it's state, and the /im flag tells taskkill the file to close is an image file, called "Steam.exe." I put this bat file in the STEAM root directory, but you can put it anywhere you want.

Thats it. Not too hard. I was setting this up as well a few weeks ago, and had a fun time trying to figure out how to close Steam when I exited CS:S too. This little BAT file does the trick! Enjoy!

hmm not sure if you would even need to create a batch file...you should be able to add it raw to launch after.

taskkill.exe /f /im Steam.exe

No pathing is needed for the executable since its in your stock paths (windows folder\system folder\system32 folder).

Hehe for those looking to geek more with pathing check out this cool tip.

Tho I still prefer PSKill over windows default app.

I dunno, I prefer BAT files because they're easy to make. I also made it a BAT file so I could place it in the STEAM program folder. I was afraid it wouldn't work without it being in the same folder as STEAM, but I guess that doesn't really need to be true since it looks in the TaskManager for the image Steam.exe rather than just killing the actual program from the folder. Oh well, more work than is needed I guess.

Thanks guys its working now just one more thing!! hehe how do you get gameEX not to quit when you hit Esc key as its needed to change the res and settings in quake and all the others for that matter??

I'd imagine disable Mapping Keys...
