Ok... So I've looked at the feature requests thread, and I see it was asked for a little over a year ago to switch audio tracks and subtitles in OGM/MKV file playback...

I've seen similar questions posed previously without a definitive answer...

Is there ANY support in GameEX to be able to do this? I would think this would be a very basic feature for media playback and had a hard time believing it wasn't actually a function in this app. I am getting ready to rebuild my media PC and really wanted to use GameEX for the frontend to make an "emulation console", and we also use it to play back a lot of anime, which of course a lot of it uses OGM format with multiple audio tracks and subtitles. So GameEX would have been ideal for my uses and I was all warmed up to register when I noticed this function wasn't mentioned anywhere.

So please, can someone tell me if this in fact possible, or if there is a way to use an external player such as Media Player Classic to play said files this way? And I mean is there a way to integrate it into GameEX, not have to launch the player, and then open the file from within the player. I'd like to be able to just browse to the file from within the video listing and click on the file, and have it launch in the appropriate player.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'd love to be able to reg this soon and get this project rolling... :)

Well I took a quick look into MPC and couldn't come up with an answer....there does seem to be an external OGG filter that allows you to define which lang...or to be able to switch langs...tho I didn't have time to hunt it down and try it out.

Plus most the stuff I have is hard subbed...and very very few has dual audio...however I can probably still hack some thing together but it wont happen till monday PST as I'm heading out of town tomorrow morning.

Plus STU is likely to kick my ass if I don't start pitching in on those DB's I got him roped into helping on. ;)

Well, I'm going to assume that this isn't a built-in option for GameEX judging by the only reply I got, which is disappointing to say the least. GameEX seems like a nice front end (although I also am having problems getting SFIIIn to show up in the MAME list), but this glaring lack in the built-in video player is a huge issue for me, to the point I don't think I'll be able to use it for what I want, as we tend to watch a lot of anime, and a lot of it is in dual-audio. I am suprised tho, as I did read that this simple feature was requested over a year ago and never addressed... I mean, I'd have already registered the app if it just had this ability.

I did also try adding MPC as an emulator as outlined in another thread, and got it to work somewhat but frankly it's a bit cumbersome, and the inability to set multiple paths or UNCs is a real killer with it, as I have videos stored across the network on several PCs and on multiple drives.

So one final question for everyone out there then, does anyone know a way possibly to set up FFDSHOW with some sort of keyboard shortcut and using some sort of video overlay to maybe turn subtitles on and off, and maybe switch the audio tracks?

Well actually the only way I find to fix the problem for audio tracks and subtitles is to set before the language in Haali media splitter option.

Every time you will open an ogm or mkv files into gameex, it will load your defaults settings but it means you have to choose previously one type of audio tracks and the same for subtitles.

All my movies are in dual audio and for almost it's english and french so the setting is simple...but sometimes the first audio tracks is in japanese (manga), italian, spanish..

For those video, the only way is to come back in windows and take another player...arghhh...

I searched some keyboard shortcuts for haali media spiltter but apparently there are none for the moment.

I think BSplayer (from webtech) have this kind of shorcuts but it means that you need to set this player as an emulator...and so videos will not appears from the main menu of gameex...

Maybe there is a way to record a macro in order to switch the audio tracks from media splitter (when launching gameex player, ffdshow and Haali appears in the tool bar). I know that Nologic had already done this kind of record for NullDC launcher ().

By the way, thanks again Nologic for Xpadder features.

Thats the thing, if it was simple I would have done it already. I have no idea how to implement this into GameEx. Its not simple nor easy to do.

The solution to have GameEx play the videos in other locations would be set the MPC emulator to use shortcuts, and create shortcuts for all your videos and put them in one folder.

I didn't mean this as an insult to your frontend, but I do feel that it's a lack of an important feature... Several other applications have this, such as Zoomplayer, BSPlayer, TCMP, MPC, Mediaportal... I know Mediaportal is opensource, perhaps the devs there can give you some ideas on how to do so?

Excuse my frusteration, it's just that your frontend pretty much is ideal for what I want to do, except for this one huge stumbling block for me... :(

As far as the shortcut idea for MPC, I played with it, but frankly it's just too kludgy for my tastes... I just simply want to keep my videos in their respective places and be able to play them, and even using MPC as an emulator just looks a little too "patchwork" for what I want. I'm using Mediaportal right now, which is a very nice app, but it's setup isn't as smooth, nor is it's integration of emulators as seamless. I wish I could just smush the two apps together... :)

The GameEx media player is low level, allowing me full access to DirectShow, so it should be possible. I just dont know how to do it. If there are any devs out there that would like to help, Id be happy to take the advice. I cant use code from Media Portal as GameEx is not open source, its also too big a proect for me to work out the code easily (I have looked at it in the past). Im not in contact with any Media Portal devs, and I think it would be rude to ask for help as GameEx is not open source.

I see... Ok, well it was just a suggestion... I wish I could help, but unfortunately I haven't the programming skills to do so. Hopefully this is something you will be able to at some point implement, as I do love the GameEX frontend overall and think it's very smooth the way everything is integrated. I guess I just have this specific need for it that a lot of the users don't... :(

I'll still look at a few options of how to do this without it being too clunky, maybe I can still use it for what I want. Perhaps just set up MPC as a secondary player just for anime or something. And maybe just see if I can configure it just to play off the DVD-ROM drive and not off any hard drive path, so we can just pop in an anime CD/DVD and use MPC just for that...

But please, don't abandon the idea of integrating this into the internal player! :)

hmm not sure if its just the fact I been driving for the past 5+ hours...but your original reply didn't come off smoothly.

I'm not exactly sure what your problem is with UNC and MPC...but it seems like a fairly no brainer to me....well at least if your using NTFS.

The only issue I see is if you wanted to browse by folder...out side of that I can make every thing work...hell who knows maybe I can even fake that as well.

Anyways I'm bitchy right now so I'll walk away and take a fresh look at this tomorrow.

Your welcome as always. :)
