Ok, so I've been searching the forum for a couple of days now (along with Adultry's ConfigHQ site). I did a forum search for "zinc" and I think i've read every post, and I still can't seem to work out how to set up Zinc in GameEx... I must confess I'm not the most tech savy, but I'm quickly learning.

Perhaps there's market for a GameEx - Zinc guide? I dunno

I've read a bit about a Zinc Loader program, but many of the posts are marked as removed, and the loader is nowhere to be found. Did the GameEx Zinc feature make this loader redundent?

Anyway, I can get Zinc to run using Zinc GUI, but I'm currious how GameEx implements Zinc. Do I need to write .bat files for every game, or is there a good general settings approach that can be used?

I've set up the Advanced config with zinc, but when ever I try to run the games (listed in the MAME menu on GameEx) they load via MAME (wich is really slow)... This may be another problem alltogether.

I'm sorry if this has been well covered elsewhere, but I really can't find it.

Well I've gotten a little closer... I followed the guide at easyEmu

http://www.mameworld.net/easyemu/zincguide.htm

And wrote a Zinc.cfg file in notepad that sets up the sound and the ROM path, and uses the D3D renderer:::

--roms-directory=.\roms

--use-sound=yes

--sound-filter-enable=no

--sound-filter-cutoff=22050

--sound-surround-lite-enable=no

--sound-surround-lite-multiplier=40

--sound-stereo-exciter=no

--use-slow-geometry=no

--use-renderer-cfg-file=renderer.cfg

--renderer=.\wind3d\renderer.znc

I then set the command line path in Game Ex advanced menu/zinc to run the zinc.cfg file

--use-config-file=zinc.cfg

I also adjusted settings in the Renderer.cfg file to turn on fullscreen, and turn off FPS, etc.

After updating my MAME game list in gameEx, now games seem to load with Zinc (instead of mame), but now I'm off to work out how to set up controllers, and seperate game/controller/renderer configurations...

I'm getting there I think..... Slowly but surely ;) This forum has been a big help, as well as inspiration... I registered GameEx awhile back, but I never knew you could do so much cool $hite with it!!!

All the ZiNc wrappers and support files Nologic created are over at ConfigHQ. Perhaps that will help.

I wrote bat files for every game. I will upload them later and save you the trouble.

And I just might create a tutorial.

That would be awesome! There's a few of the games that I'm not that interested in (the Jap versions, and some of the others) but it's looking like I may well need .bat files to cover all the different controller/renderer settings. And thanks to everyone who replied. My girlfriend got a bit upset at me for being on the computer nonstop the past couple of days :( I'll be stoked when I get this all worked out... I'm sure I'll just move on to adding more emus though

So, I could be wrong, but it seems to me like basically there's 2 ways to set Zinc up in GameEx. 1) by doing what i've done so far, and setting up a zinc.cfg file to point to a single, generic, controller/renderer; then loading it (--use-config-file=zinc.cfg) through the GameEx advanced config menu... or 2) to use batch files instead and make different ones for each game...

I'm sure it's well worth the work involved, but I can see how this could be a set back for a lot of people who are not as resourcful.

I also think a beginners guide to setting up these batch files would help a lot of people (myself included)...

Thanks fellas.

Zinc is not as user friendly as MAME is, but the advantage is that some more demanding games become playable. I personally struggled getting Zinc set up when I started out, but once I figured it out, I haven't even had to think about it since. The only thing that would make it better is when HK gets his new CP viewer going. Then I won't have to explain to people that the buttons aren't always set up the same way.
