Cool, this should be handy, my new hard drive arrived so I'm finally ready to give daphne a blast, I've been working on sorting out my PSX roms for the last few days but hopefully I'll have some free time for daphne tomorrow afternoon... I'll PM you about the PSX discs soon too

Good job on the vid. I see you are also using the older version of the Daphne loader. Have you tried the newer beta version 1.0 of Daphne? I am wondering if it is the cause of some people's troubles as it seems that the folks over at Daphne are in cahoots with Digital Liesure now. You can now purchase and download DL, DL2, Space Ace, etc from Digital Liesure using a link in Daphne Loader. Is the new version of Daphne crippled so to speak, to keep people from using bootlegged copies of DL, DL2, Space Ace, etc, etc? I see on the FAQ section over at Daphne that someone asks,

"Q: I've used DaphneLoader to auto-download Dragon's Lair, Dragon's Lair 2, Space Ace, or Thayer's Quest. Does a valid DVD have to be in the drive every time I want to play this game?

A: No, you only have to insert DVD the first time you want to play the game. The exception to this rule is if you move or modify the files that were created during the DVD authentication process."

I, like you, am already using and have set up my Daphne ver .99.7 and it works flawlessly so I have no reason to upgrade, but I thought I might mention this to the very few people that may be using a bootleg copy of these games that the new version of Daphne may not work for them. I of course do not condone the use of said games, but am merely offering a possible explaination as to why their setup may not be working as they thought it should.

Yes I'am using 99.7 I posted the download for the build in another topic. Cant remember which one.

I too have tried the new 1.0 and am nt sure on if any command line paramaters have changed or if it treats the framefiles diffrently.

But I suppose it COULD work.

your game 1 options are completely wrong. just use this -framefile "roms\lair\lair.txt" and put the full path example - framefile c:\daphne\roms\lair\lair.txt

If you you are courious why game 1 options are wrong... First Daphneloader does NOT plat games it simply launches daphne.exe... secondly look at the rest of the config.. Gameex will build the command based on the daphne settings..Yo have not included all the setting but I know them. First gameex askes the daphne path.. Example..C:\Daphne\ Then it asks the daphne.exe... So now your command looks like this... c:\daphne\daphne.exe now you slecet your game rom...DLE20...

Now it looks like c:\daphne\daphne.exe dle20 (now it adds the daphne options) Example c:\daphne\daphne.exe dle20 vldp -fullscreen -x 1024 -y 768 -nohwaccel.. (Now it adds the daphne options)c:\daphne\daphne.exe dle20 vldp -fullscreen -x 1024 -y 768 -nohwaccel -framefile "c:\daphne\roms\lair\lair.txt" (Now you have a complete command line...

Essentelly you are trying to run it like this...

c:\daphne\daphne.exe dle20 vldp -fullscreen -x 1024 -y 768 -nohwaccel DaphneLoader.exe lair vldp -framefile roms\lair\lair.txt -blank_searches -min_seek_delay 1000 -seek_frames_per_ms 151 -homedir . -bank 0 11111001 -bank 1 00100111 -noserversend -sound_buffer 2048 -fullscreen -x 1024 -y 768

My Final question is how can I make Dragon's lair play with infinite lives using the above command line you gave me? is it a matter of making a 1 into a 0 if so which one

You best bet is enable it in the loader.. then view what command option it uses to enable it... Then paste it in gameex

I had a problem with Daphne in GameEx where it would only load DL2. I added the quotes in the config, now it will load a game I select, but when I exit that game and try to load another, it will re load the last game played. Any idea why?

What does the daphne log say(located in the daphne folder) My guess is incorrect rom or a missing .bin file... Ive seen it many times...

Just set you game options to ... -framefile "M:\DAPHNE PROJECT\framefile.txt" -fullscreen -x 1280 -y 1024 -nohwaccel

Remove the M:\DAPHNE PROJECT\daphne.exe lair2 vldp

thanks for all the help so far. I looked at a lot of multiple emulator front ends but so far Game EX has been the best one by far. I'm building a 4 player silk stick controlled system that will be usable with any high def TV. I'm going to have more questions.. next one being can I add a latency command to make space ace have better timing and scene times?

What version of daphne are you using?

Did you watch the config video?

you are running the config via the command line.

example

Daphne.exe DLE20 -vldp -framefile "c:\daphne\mpeg\dl2\dl2.txt"

this calls in order the PROGRAM,THE ROM,Virtual Laserdisk setting, Frame file location

Now there are alot more options but this will get it going.. It also is using DLE20 as my rom...If you want to change what rom is calls Id start by specifiying the rom I want to use

maybe like Daphne.exe lair -vldp -framefile "c:\daphne\mpeg\dl2\dl2.txt"

Also It can be integrated in gameex there is a daphne section in the advanced configuration.

DO NOT PASTE THE WHOLE LINE (Daphne.exe lair -vldp -framefile "c:\daphne\mpeg\dl2\dl2.txt") in game # options.. There was a daphne thread where someone said to do that and has been causing problems ever since.

Gameex will build the command line based on the paths and options already defined...

Gameex comes with a few example of working configs... Just chane the paths.. If you do not understand after watching the video plase ask and I will clairify.

Look at your command line

DL nisnt working because you are trying to run it with the loader.exe... Even the loader calls daphne.exe..

C:\daphne2\DaphneLoader.exe dle20

Space ace is working because you are using daphne.exe...look

Just to try, I exited Gameex. I ran daphne loader. Then ran Cliff Hanger. Exited Daphne. Openend Gameex. Selected Dragons Lair from the Laserdisc Games menu. Guess what- it loaded Cliff Hanger!!!

So it is just loading the last game Daphne loader loads. Hmmmm......

Your all messed up

First off you will notice that the daphne section of gameex askes you where the path and daphne exe is.. Then it shows global game options like vlpd fullscreen etc.. It also asks ROM name. It does this for a reason... (IT BUILDS THE COMMAND FOR YOU) There is NO I repeat NO need to put the whole command in Game Options.

Before you even get to the game configuration part of Gameex this is what you have

C:\Emulators\Daphne\Daphne.exe vldp -fullscreen -x 640 -y 480 -nohwaccel

Notice the only thing missing is THE CALLED ROM and FRAME FILE INFO

Thats where the next section comes in... It asks ROM NAME (the called ROM) in our case its LAIR..Now our command looks like this

C:\Emulators\Daphne\Daphne.exe LAIR vldp -fullscreen -x 640 -y 480 -nohwaccel

NEXT is game options this should be just the frame file info and game specific options like -useoverlaysb2.. so put this in gamee options

(-framefile "M:\DAPHNE\roms\lair\lair.txt" -fullscreen -useoverlaysb 1 -bank 0 11011000 -bank 1 01110011 -x 1280 -y 1024)

Now your command looks like this

C:\Emulators\Daphne\Daphne.exe LAIR vldp (-framefile "M:\DAPHNE\roms\lair\lair.txt" -fullscreen -useoverlaysb 1 -bank 0 11011000 -bank 1 01110011 -x 1280 -y 1024 -nohwaccel

Got that?....Moving on

If you are specifying resolutions in your game options you might consider removing it from the default game options.

Otherwise you will end up with somthing like this. (This is because its being specified in game options and your command line). You will also notice -nohwaccell is being called twice. Keep this in mind-- I wouldnt want to call diffrent resolutions so either take the out of the default options or the game options....

C:\Emulators\Daphne\Daphne.exe LAIR vldp (-framefile "M:\DAPHNE\roms\lair\lair.txt" -fullscreen -useoverlaysb 1 -bank 0 11011000 -bank 1 01110011 -x 1280 -y 1024 -nohwaccel -fullscreen -x 640 -y 480 -nohwaccel

Personally my game options for DL only include.

-framefile "M:\DAPHNE\roms\lair\lair.txt" -fullscreen -useoverlaysb 1

Why you ask.. because all other switches are built by the means specified above..

It appears you are calling the same framefile for both games "M:\DAPHNE\framefile.txt" Ok so what the framfile does is tell daphne where the video is and what the starting frame is. Since I doubt they share the same video this is wrong.... It looks like you got DL1 right though.. It also looks generic.. Usually they are named according to the game they are for.... This makes it easy to know what your doing..

Dont worry you are not alone in this Ive explaind this a hundered times before helping others get this setup and I havent come across a person yet that we couldnt get this going.. Maybe its time for me to write a PDF tutorial.

Brian. Thanks so much for helping me with Daphne . I literally printed out what you said and highlighted everything. I feel like i could teach a class on it now hah.. I wasn't fully aware that the command line was being created as i filled in blanks with the different games. The problem with Dragon's Lair 2 was that when i updated my framefile location it wasn't showing me my changes when the command line appeared before the game launch. Once I realized exactly what I was supposed to do, I finally noticed and was able to make the corrections manually. Daphne is finally under control!
