Hi there, I just got my cabinet all set up. GameEx is amazing and I am currently starting an Arcade community in my area with many local gamers using GameEx. I have seen on YouTube a video of a machine that plays an intro video of a lightning bolt tracing out the word mame with great music behind it. I have not found anyway however to incorperate this into my machine. I would like to be able to use this and help my friends that also want this feature for their machines. I have found the video online after hours of searching and would be willing to share to anyone who wanted it.

This is a link to the video to give you an example of what I am talking about:

Thank you

Okay simple enough.

1. Start up "Advanced Configuration"

2. Click "MultiMedia/HTPC"

3. Click the "Browse" button for "Startup Video/Dir:"

If a single files is selected only that video will play...if its a directory then GameEx will randomly pick & play from the available movie files in that directory...and clearly if there is no videos there...it will play nothing. :)

4. Click "Save"

5. Start GameEx and after the wait\loading screen the video will start to play. :)

Oh you may want to check out http://www.cinemarcade.com/movies.html for other vid's...I don't have any other links to video's...but maybe others do.

Found another link...to some stuff...will add more as found:

Thanks Nologic for explaining how to do this. I just grabbed that MAME Lightening Bolt AVI over at Retroblast. It's cool.

Thank you so much Nologic! I set it all up and it looks great but the video is upside down haha.

Any idea how to make this play right side up?

Does anyone know of any startup videos kinda like the lightning bolt MAME one that just says GameEx. I'm using GameEx for more then just MAME and gaming and I want my intro video to reflect that.

Upsidedown video is a poorly setup video codec. I had that happen once and fixing the affected codec's setup fixed the problem.

You guys are welcome.

As for a GameEx into...I don't know of any...and I'm currently procrastinating on finishing up some databases...so I can't fire up Maya and After Effects to see about creating one...with out fear of virtual rotten veg's being hurled my way. ;)

Hey Nologic (or HK, etc), do you know what theme that machine is running? I really like how it's set up and I don't have a clue where to start. I've been using TalkingBull's theme from the start and never looked into creating my own, but this one looks pretty much exactly how I envisioned mine being set up.

Its the Blue-Ex theme with 3d alpha blended transitions turned on.

Blue-Ex is included with the default GameEx themes.

You know, I never actually downloaded the default themes cause it crashed the couple times I tried it way back when. I'll have to download them manually and check them out. Thanks!

EDIT: Wait a minute. I was just looking at the themes page and it appears that the BlueEx theme is actually in the installer, but it doesn't show up in the list (as Blue-Ex), so I don't know which one it is. Hmmm...

I'm confused. That theme doesn't look the same as the one in the video. Was it tweaked a bit or am I missing something? The key giveaway is the images on the left side of the screen (the control panel closeup). Anyway, thanks for the info.

Yeah, sorry, it must be a direvitave of Blue-Ex. I guess you could always contact the person, and ask him to share it with us all? That could only be for the greater good.

In regard to the download problems, yeah I switched hosts a while a go at a cost because of those issues. There should be none of that happening any more.

Ok, cool. I actually sent an email to the owner of that machine to see if he could/would share the theme with me. If he gets back to me, I'll ask if he would mine sharing it to the GameEx community. If so, I'll probably just cc you on the email if that seems like the easiest way.

Night is the resident theme manager for GameEx, so also let him know if you have any luck with things.

Thanks.

As for the community out this way, We had a Tetris Tournement with about 20 people. We had a wrestling sized belt that a leatherworker made for us. It has tetris blocks on it and lepord print on the edges. We will soon be upping the prizes and arcades and getting some Street Fighter Tournements rolling. We carried the winner out into the yard in a chair chanting tetris. tons of fun.

I will post pictures soon.

Also I am not sure how to fix codec on my divx or whatever Bk said to do. Any advice?

much love,

-Nynja

The easiest way is probably to uninstall all the codec's you have and simply install beta2 (stable) (bottom of page)

** Sorry original message had links to wrong version of ffdshow, and XP Codec Pack use a version not usable by GameEx **

Hi Nologic, please help ! I was using an earlier build of ffdshow but decided to upgrade to the one you suggested but now i'm having the same problem as nynja - video upsidedown. The funny thing is when i'm watching the video in preview mode it is the right way up but when i select the avi itself everything is upside down :( . What am i doing wrong ?

Thanks,

iano.

Try installing it but on like the 7th dialog "Select Additional Tasks" select "Reset all ffdshow settings" then alter to your own personal pref's.

I tried what you said but it's still the same. When previewing videos they're the fine but when watch them fullscreen they're upside down and on exiting GameEX i get

an error window (ActiveMovie Window: GameEX.exe - Application Error) The instruction at "0x0b641374" referenced at "0x00000004" The memory could not be "Read". I ended up going back to the previous build (20051129) of ffdshow i was using.

Cheers,

iano.

I heard back from a different guy on youtube than the one in the initial video, but he appears to be running the same theme but unmodified. He said that the theme he uses is called 'Blue Snap' and was included with GameEx. Has this theme been renamed to something else? I've looked at all the themes I could find and don't see one that looks like this or has the same name. I still haven't heard back from the first guy...

Like I said before, its either Blue-Ex or one based on it. Its part of the default themes you can download when you install GameEx.

I tried that one, but it looks different. Does alpha blending change things that are displayed (like background images)? The one in both videos has some kind of a cp displayed. Thanks.
