1) anyone know why running GameEx would cause "WMI performance adapter" service to start and stop several times each gameex run on my htpc?

i have been away for alittle time i must say this tread is getting kinda big what in my oppion is nice but its about 20 differents issues and things its getting kinda confusing

i hope it dosent offend you but i think it would be better if you made treads about the differents matters that way its alot easier to keep track even for me

any real bugs or good suggestions will go into the correct place or new thread, i just want to use this rather than starting new threads for every little thing that may not even be an issue.. like:

I can't get the Jukebox to dissapear from start menu..

edit: i found an extra option in the configurator, but when i use that gameex crashes on load. will investigate later. if someone can just tell me the config line for turning off jukebox that would be appreciated (one above doesnt work).

EnableJukebox is now a redundant setting since I added support for using the Jukebox without using WMP. use Jukeboxmode=2 to disable.

Why dont you use the config app? I've generally stopped supporting manual ini eiditing. Thats why I dont comment it anymore. Whats wrong with it in that you cant use it? Please explain so maybe I can enhance it?

i'm scared enough of the config app that before running it i always backup my config, because too often after saving the config, gameex crashes on load (not gameex's own error log, an actual crash msg). so then i restore my backup config and try again.

also i find it much quicker to just edit an .ini with notepad.

i can't really say anything is wrong with your configurator, except for producing files that crash gameex, and taking longer to find the setting i want. i do all my maintenance over VNC and the response time is quite slow to mouse clicks within gameex or the configurator.

Works fine for me. Check the Audio Path setting. Whats up with it, anything?

yes, i had a non-existant drive in my audio path, removed that, now doesnt crash.

edit: new problem. its playing music, but i cant see the controls. i have show media controls turned on in configurator. i can push where the controls are, and they work. i just cant see them! ideas please?

I did change what happened to the cursor at the startup, but it was 1 or two versions go. It does not hide on startup now, it goes to the bottom right corner, then hides after the normal timer or when a control is pressed. I did that so there was no cursor showing at startup as DirectX always seems to center the cursor upon initialising.

I guess the controls problem is a bug, they will show if you enable the jukebox 0 or 1. Your really gonna get crap music support unless you enable the jukebox, including no randomization.

yeah i just didnt want to figure out how to do this WMP playlist crap, i was happy with it just (randomly) playing a folder of music.

edit: the controls do not show when i set Jukeboxmode=1 any other ideas? i checked the theme, doesnt seem to be that.

i was actually trying to clean up the menu to get everything important on one page... still working on customizable menus i hope?

and this is the first time i think ive seen the cursor work properly - through various gameex versions its been flickery (mostly) a plain white system cursor, and now a stable enhanced cursor, woo

i guess the flickery cursor was you trying to hide and cursorxp fighting back.. not sure. anyway please leave as is as seems to work now.

i notice gameex is no longer blocking my screensaver, if i just leave gameex open (i have set to just turn monitor off). this seems to have changed within the last few versions. intended, or a control ive missed?

edit: im possibly going mad and gameex hasnt changed here, sorry..!

Really no idea at the moment why that would happen.

Edit: I thought GameEx didn't block the screensaver anyway. I have mine turned off anyway. I did think it blocked powersave though.

new builds (since about.. v5.2x?) take quite a long time to come back up after quitting an app (this is without using mapkeys). any thoughts, or what I might do to speed that up please?

edit: since about 5.3x this seems to be back to normal, but its still not exactly fast, hoping theres a way to make this more instant

i'm using flat start page because i don't want e.g. my DVD player to be under "other games and programs". but as i add more emulators etc, the main menu is going to get ridiculously long if things aren't nested.

How do you create a flat start page? That would do for the short term.

the text at the bottom when updating rom list and launching mame games, for me is white on white, so cant be read.. how have i messed this up (used to be black i think?)

edit: fixed, found the White setting in config. sorry.

also since updating to 103 some adult games (like Zip-Zap or ZigZag or something) are showing up, not good.. where is adult flag stored, in mameinfo.dat? edit: updating that didnt help :/ anyone?

just noticed that the back green arrow, the about ?, the green x on the top right and the exit button on top right all do not work, clicking them with the mouse does nothing. what could cause this please?

the X on the top left (return to start page) does work. the up down list arrows do work.

the buttons at the top right do work when selected with the keyboard.. this is exactly opposite of what i want, want them to be selectable with mouse only.

help, what have i done

edit: tried changing themes, didnt help. can't see relevant control in configurator. config app also messed up my font sizes.. reverted to previous .ini gah

btw this was same problem in 5.36 and 5.44 . not sure when it started. im getting worried my config is messed up and ill have to start again, which will take hours

I think this might be due to the change in 5.34 that shows media controls at all times. Things to look at first would be settings related to that and your jukebox settings. I think you may be getting exceptions, do the buttons show highlighted as the mouse is hovering over them?

edit: n/m, found a way to fake it like this:

path_19= (some path)

cmd_19=donothing.bat

snap_19=

showdesktop_19=

mapkeys_19=

WaitBeforeKeys_19=

SendKeys_19=

but make sure donothing.bat contains something like "sleep 5" (or ping if you dont have sleep.exe) or gameex will never restore if someone selects the blank item!
