Wow, I guess I've been slacking while I've been sleeping

Do you think I should change the file name for the ST, or just let Tom do it later. I'll probably mess up again on these old POS systems :P

In Work: Xbox

tut tut tut bkenobi "[Console] Game Boy Advance" should be [Handheld] :)

it should probably actually be "[Handheld] Nintendo Game Boy Advance" to keep in line with the rest of these databases :P

Shoot

Actually, I never checked to see what the categories were. I saw [PC] and [Console], but didn't know about [Handheld]. Are there any more that I should be aware of?!

Damn you guys! these are really great! I have to run a scan to change my USA only sets on my laptop to GoodName format (assuming that's what the DB sees them as...), but from what I've seen these are simply awesome! I hope Tom takes notice and adds them into the install!

Awesome work guys! :)

I'm REALLY excited about the GBA and the PSP databases... However I have a question... I know that PSP .cso and .iso files are not in GoodName format, so how does the database recognize these games? Also, what's the naming format for PSX games? Just curious... Too bad we can't use a system like clrMAMEpro uses to scan CRCs and headers and such to match up the games...

PS: What do you mean TRASH 80? I grew up on a TRS-80 with a daisy wheel printer and a double door floopy drive. I wish I still had all my floopies... I'd be playing Phantom and Demon Seed right now if I did! :S

Adultery-

Actually these don't really use the goodname format...and I wouldn't suggest altering names just yet...unless you have backups. Keep in mind these are beta and subject to change...tho hopefully very little...and not to the point where things need to be redone.

As for the Trash 80 comment its out of love...if you want to call it that...as it was the first system I programmed on...soon after the Apple IIc.

bkenobi -

Hehe well I typically also use the tag [Arcade] however I don't think Moby covers those.

Question are you leaving out the ESRB on purpose or is it simply not showing up since your in Ireland...and the ESRB is a USA rating system?

All -

Well I'll look into trying to automate correcting the number of players a given game supports...as right now just a simple default value is applied.

These sets are in no particular format, which is where I can see there being a bit of trouble... or alot of editing :) unless Nologic has something up his sleeve?

The big difference I'm noticing is that Nologic's script is changing ":" to ";" where as both nointro's and cowering's rom sets change ":" to " -"

So for example in a GoodN64 set you have "007 - The World is Not Enough" but the the mdb is expecting "007; The World is Not Enough"

but maybe Nologic is intending to do some more tomfoolery with these mdbs now that we have all the data?

Hmmn... I haven't been deliberately leaving it out, I had noticed that it wasn't going in but I just assumed that not all the systems on the site had ESRB data because I checked the Master System mdb which you had done and it didn't have them either and the Amstrad CPC mdb doesn't have them either which bkenobi done

Well making that switch is simple enough to do manual edits....simply select the "Name" column to where it shades all entries top to bottom then select copy...paste into your fav text editor perform a search and replace...then edit the first entry which should be "Name" to "GoodName" select all copy...go back to Access select the "GoodName" column like prior...then paste...boom changes made. :)

I just never really sat down and looked at the differences...so I just slapped in my own personal naming pref...as there is no real harm as we have the original name preserved in the "Name" column..so such changes are an annoyance rather than any real effort.

(ESRB) Yeah those came out before that rating system came out...so thus no rating

Okay double checked...yeah its got to be because of your web client data...its a really not a big issue...I intend to automate looking up that data any ways to make sure its as current as possible...I'm not really a big fan of that rating system but it does serve a purpose for those that wish to use it...if I recall there is one in Europe as well...tho I don't recall its name.

You can actually just use the edit|replace option, set it to Look In: GoodName and Match: Whole Field

The harder bit would be finding the smaller differences like "Disney¦Pixar A Bug's Life" in a GoodN64 set would be "Bug's Life, A"

It's ELSPA here in the UK

Well UltraCompare or the like would come in handy in making the names match....not sure if I could automate it correctly tho...but never know till I try. :)

Thanks for the heads up on the UK rating system. :)

Another question is do we make the names comply with GoodMerge, No-Intro, or TOSEC or some other group?

Or do we simply suggest using Game Maps...err or whatever they are called. (having a brain fart right now)

*Update*

Probably the best would be to include both Good & No-Intro...each having their own column...I don't know guys I'm open for suggestions.

Oh link to current collection is here: [linky]

I know I would prefer NoIntro but thats only because thats what I use myself :)

Having both sounds good but I reckon if we can't have both then the best thing would be to use the Goodtools names as they're the more standard naming convention that most people use and I'll just have to live with it... until the world comes to it's senses and everyone else realises how much better the NoIntro sets are

Well I can't see why we couldn't have both stored in the db...Access doesn't get slow till it hits 10mb or above and our biggest db is only 7.5mb (dos) so we have lots of room yet.

Maplists while giving us the most flexibility my give us a performance penalty of some sort...since the maplist first has to compare its self against the roms, then for the db to compare its self to the maplist.

Really need feedback from Tom as to what he is and isn't willing to conceder...as getting the entries in the db to work with the actual roms is very important...most every thing else is just niceties. :)

Stu:

It's super easy to rename your ROM sets. Just scan them and rename them using the -rename -inplace command line option from GoodXXX.exe - I scanned my NoIntro sets on my laptop and re-scanned them for GoodName from there. That's what all my snaps and AVIs are in anyway, since as you stated the GoodName format is more common. That way I get the full USA NoIntro set with goodname formatted file names. Hide the bracketed text in GameEx and you have ne nice clean list there. Everyone wins.

Of course, I have GoodMerge on the cab, but that's a whole other thing anyway and the DB doesn't always work on GoodMerge sets. So what can ya do? *shrug*
