Hi I am thinking of building a Williams 1981 ms pac-man cabinet for some of the old school games from that period. I think gameex is undoubtedly the FE I will use with Mame, but as we all know the Control Panel is small on this cabinet. My question is can I use a multi-function joystick to control the on screen pointer to navigate Gameex or would I need a trackball?

If I can't use the multi-function joystick, then to save space I was thinking of placing a touch pad, (see photo below) to the side of the cabinet as I don't need a trackball for the games I play. Any suggestions or help with this would be appreciated.

I`ve got a converted Video Wizard cabinet which is two player, and that uses an arcade joystick to fully control GameEx. I have Joysticks hooked up via a keyboard encoder so the movements are translated as keyboard presses and GameEx responds fine to it.

Not sure if that helps you but although I used a keyboard to install GameEx (a wireless one) I now have it running with no need for keyboard or mouse intervention and can control it with the player one joystick and two of the player one buttons.

That's great, thanks for your reply mental.

I am testing out gameex at the moment on my laptop with just the keyboard and pad, and I have to say that Tom Speirs and all involved have put together a quite remarkable piece of software. As soon as I'm ready to install gameex on the PC in my proposed cab I will be making the well worth it donation. Thanks guy's. :D

Just so you know, by using AutoHotKey you can easily set up GameEx to be controlled by both player 1 and player 2' joysticks and buttons at the same time, which is pretty handy when you've mates around, you don't have to keep swapping sides to choose games :)

I've a post about it and the AHK script if you need it here

Thanks for that, will be useful for me as well :)

I`ve tried literally every front end I could get to work and only three were good for me (GameEx, Maximus Arcade and MaLa) but GameEx definitely is the best.
