I had just finished building my Mame cabinet exactly the way I wanted it. I went downstairs to get my camera to record and Youtube it and when I came upstairs, I got a blue screen =( I can still browse the drive and back up some files but the hard drive is dead and I'm going to have to rebuild the machine.

My question to you is:

What is the proper procedure to backing up and restoring GameEx? I certainly do not want to have to reconfigure everything that I have set on it. I was planning on backing up the GameEx folder in Program Files, reinstall the latest GameEx when my machine is back up, registering it, then copying over the backed up GameEx dir back over.

What is the proper procedure for backing up Mame32?

Thanks in advanced

Just copy the GameEx folder to a pen drive, then install GameEx on the rebuilt machine, then copy over the GameEx folder with the backup.

Mame32 has no install so you can just copy the Mame32 folder across onto the new drive.

If you copy the whole gameex dir in program files, then reinstall over top, I know that will work. But, you will probably be working with more data than you really need to. I think you could just save the gameex.ini file in the config dir and be ok.

In your MAME directory, you have a cfg dir. This is where all of your individual game configurations (key maps, etc.) are stored. You will have one file for each rom that you modified the config for. There may be more you want to save, but that's the main thing that takes time to set up.

Great. Thanks for all your help!
