Still setting this great frontend up on my Jap candy cab and I've just ran into a strange problem with daphne, I've got all my other laser game images running ok in GameEx, but every time I try to run Dragons Lair 2 the screen just goes black and then back to the GameEx menu after a few seconds ??? Yet it works fine in the daphne/frontend emu ? It doesn't error or anything in GEX just black and back. One thing I've noticed about Dragons Lair 2 is that it starts very quick in Daphne and I'm wondering if GEX is some how not clearing something before DL2 is starting and that's whats knocking it out. Has anyone els had this problem ?

Thanks in advance and keep up the great work.

I don't know anything about DL2 or GEX, but from your description, it sounds like GEX launches as a front end or setup utility and then launches DL2. If so, is it possible that GEX closes when DL2 starts? In that case, I would guess that when GameEx sees GEX close, it figures that the application is done and regains control. If this situation is what's going on, then a GEX launching script might be useful (something in AutoIt or AutoHotKey would probably be easiest since it needs to search for a process ending).

this happens to me too. I cant get Dragons Lair 2 to launch, it just acts like it about then quits back to game ex. All the other laserdisk games work fine.

Any ideas??? Are you still having problems?

This happens to me also but not with the Daphne version of Dragons Lair 2, its the windows cdrom version. I have the cd rom versions of dragons lair 1 & 2, Space ace, and crime patrol which are all set up under pc games. All of these games work perfect except Dragons Lair 2 which seems to run fine for about 4 seconds but then reverts back to GameEx. What makes this worse is that I can still hear Dragons Lair 2 Running in the background.

Anyone have any ideas why this is happening.

My guess would be that DL2 has a launcher that launches the game and quits. So GameEx is detecting the launcher (the process itself) is gone, so it takes over again. If that's the case, you will either need to avoid using the launcher somehow or use a script as a wrapper for the launcher. There are a bunch of wrappers around here (mostly written by nologic), so you should be able to modify something to make it work.

Basically, the wrapper will run DL2, then watch to see when the DL2 program has exitted rather than the launcher. When that happens, the wrapper will close and GameEx will regain control.

Cool video! I've got Daphne up and running great now thanks to your video. I was having trouble getting the framefile stuff to work, but not now. The only thing now is getting Daphne mapped to my PS2 controller. I can't seem to get it to work right.

Use Xpadder to map the key strokes to a joypad :)

I'am glad you like the video tutorial :) I still need to upload it to tom... It seems I forgot....

The new version of daphne does NOT use framefiles Daphne and digital leisure ( the company that owns the rights to DL,Dl2,Space ace..are in bed so to speak and daphne now NATIVELY supports the game.... No more pirated movie with a frame file tahat tells daphne the starting sequence.....

Gameex on the other hand Uses a framefile option in the config--( It is needed in older builds of daphne) Without the need for this in the new version of daphne the framfile location would be blank in gameex... Which means it will probably error out.

You will probably have to resort to making batch files and setting it up as a emulator.

Of course if you are using the videofiles alone (not using daphne to rip from the digital leasure disc) stick with the 99.7 build.
