Hey Headkaze (or Nologic, or anyone else who can write in C#)...

Can you possibly make a plugin that does one of the following two things:

1) Mirrors whatever's on the first monitor to the second monitor while GameEx is running on a two monitor setup (including emulators) *preferred*, or

2) Displays the GameExtender on a second monitor?

I'm working on a new idea on the cab. I want to mount another 17" monitor on the top of the marquee for spectators to watch. It gets a little crowded when we're having NBA Jam tournaments and there's 20 people crowded around my 27" monitor.

All I can really do to help is test, since I'm not good enough to use VB just yet. My classes won't be starting until I get past all my pre-req classes and I don't want to wait a whole year for a feature like that. :(

I really would appreciate it...

That's one down... :(

Kaze ol buddy... What do ya say? I'll even email you a pint... :D

Your overthinking things ;) Doing this in pure software would slow your computer down too much for it to be worth it. The good news is most modern video cards allow you to use dual monitors (I'm actually writing this on the second screen of my dual monitor setup). Video cards usually have two outputs, one SGVA and one digital. You should also get an adapter that allows you to plug an SVGA monitor to the digital output. Now you have two monitors setup ready for dual monitor goodness. There are 3 modes of operations, span; the display is stretched across two screens (pretty wild and some games actually work like this), then there is Dualview (each monitor can have it's own resolution) and the one you want is Clone.

The good news is you can run your dual monitors at the same time without any noticable lag in display. But you need a fairly decent video card with enough RAM to do this.

As for getting GameExtender to work on a secondary monitor. Have you checked out the GameExtender Viewer Settings? There is already an option called "Display on Secondary".

Kaze:

Yes, I actually use two monitors at home on the PC. The problem is that the ROM only broadcasts to the main monitor... Except for MAME that is (there's a command line in MAME that does exactly what I need... Except for on two monitor games like NSS and PC10 and such). The second monitor always shows my desktop when GameEx runs... which doesn't solve the problem.

As for displaying the GameExtender on a secondary monitor, the option is there but it has never worked for me.

What I really wanted was just a mirror image of what's playing on Monitor 1 to broadcast on Monitor Two as well... instead of showing my desktop.

I guess if MAME can do this, I can't understand what's so complicated about rendering the exact same thing on the other monitor.

I have plenty of RAM and I have a splendid video card, so it shouldn't be an issue.

Why don't you get a vga cable splitter. I have used this to do a quick and dirty job with seemely good results.

How does a splitter impact on quality of picture? 27" would show a lot of flaws and noise if they were there... So it's not really an option if picture quality is reduced any.

Incidentally, my Video Card seems to have three outs on it actually... One is for a regular monitor (VGA?), the other is for a hi-def monitor (DVI?) ... (I had to get an adapter to run two standard monitors on a PC), and the third appears to be S-Video (TV). Outputs aren't an issue there...

Maybe there's just a problem with my methods but like I stated, my primary monitor runs GameEx when I launch it and the secondary monitor always shows the desktop unless it's MAME. Not much fun to look at really. ;)

You are running your multi monitor setup in dual view. Then you using Mame's software cloning I guess. You need to set your hardware to clone. It depends on what video card your using but any decent ATI or NVidia card can do this. You need to download the latest drivers and then set it to clone view. Then any software you run will be cloned to the second screen.

tims idea sounds the best and simpleest to do you dont lose any quality in picture.

Well, I don't know if I would say "no quality", but the quality lost will be much less apparent if you are using svideo. If you are using composite and you use a cheap splitter, you may see a quality loss. But, you are already using crappy connections anyway, so who cares :o

Actually, I use an svideo splitter in my cab to give me a signal to send to my guns. I did a bit of testing (since I was concerned about the same quality loss), and I found it was imperceivable. Keep i mind that svideo splitters are a bit hard to come by. I got mine from RadioShack online. Good luck!

Actually the idea I'm talking about has better picture quality. The first output for the first monitor is the SVGA ouput, and the second monitor uses the DVI output (all my video cards have come with a free DVI->SVGA adapter) unless your second monitor supports DVI. So in the end you have two outputs using SVGA, it is clearer than you will ever get using S-Video.

Yeah, that would definitely be a better picture quality, but not everyone has dual video outputs. Actually, I do, but it was easier when I was setting things up to just use a splitter since the second display wouldn't have existed. In this case, using an adapter might work just as well like you are suggesting.

Didn't even realize Catalyst had a cloning option. My fault! :)

This is exactly the option I was hoping to find! I'll try it out on the PC first and get back to you. Thanks!!!!
