Hey Adultery,

I downloaded the Zinc Wrapper from the link that you sent me.

I followed closely the instructions "To use Advanced MAME Settings:"

When I completed through step 25, I opened GameEx and tried to play Soul Edge and Street Fighter and none of the buttons seemed to work. I also tried to use the Keyboard and could not find the mapping there either.

I am thinking that there is a configuration that I need to do to map the Joystick and Buttons on my control Deck to something that Zinc (Winterblast Plug-In) can understand?

What should I do after I finish step 25?

Thanks,

Thomas

It's going to be a lot of trial and error from here, my friend. :)

In the CONTROLS folder within the ZiNc directory, you have to manually change your button assignments for each game. Make sure you also set up the Settings.ini file to match your appropriate ROMS path. I just point mine at my MAME ROM directory.

There's no easy way to really figure out which button is which. What I did was I used Aldo's ZiNc FE and entered them in (in a seperate folder of course) and then copy and pasted the button assignments into my files in the CONTROLS folder.

As far as Joy2Key goes, you can open Joy2Key.exe and edit the key assignments easily that way.

I used Street Fighter Alpha to test all my button assignments and once I got them just right, I set the controls up like that for all my other games in that BIOS. Then, I moved on to the next one, and so forth, and so on...

Don't get into a frenzy, bud. It took me a week or so to get everything just so. :)

Ok. I am pretty sure that I understand. I could not find the Joy2Key program in the Wrapper that you sent me. Can you send me a link to that one?

I have the Settings.ini pointed to my ROMS's. They are showing up in GameEx and do load, but the buttons and Joysticks do not work at this time. That is where the trial and error part comes in, I am certain.

I understand that to mean that you had to set up your button assignments for each game type (S11, ZN1, ZN2, etc) and then load them for each game for that game type. The trial and error part is that I have to change the button configuration with the "GameName".cfg file with the Controls folder within Zinc. Is this right?

Thanks,

Thomas

I meant to say Within the controls folder.

Issue #1: In the Advanced MAME Settings of GameEx, you have to point the zinc.exe line at ZiNc_Wrapper.exe instead of ZiNc.exe - You only point it at ZiNc.exe if you're updating your MAME game list within GameEx.

Issue #2 - Yes, you are right on. The Joy2Key.exe is in the ZN1 folder. You got it in there I'm pretty sure.

Maybe that is why I am having trouble. In the link that you sent me to download Zinc from, the file that came through does not have the Zinc_Wrapper. Also, there is no Joy2Key in any of the folders?

Is it possible that you sent me to the wrong link?

Thanks,

Thomas

It is possible. Again, I'm on my Vista machine so I can't install this wrapper. I'll download it and see. Just a sec.

.::EDIT::. I'm not sure where I sent you to download that since I think I sent the link when I was changing servers. ConfigHQ has the full download here instead. Also, it was called ZiNc_Loader.exe instead of ZiNc_Wrapper.exe

My fault.

Joy2Key is in the KN1 folder I assure you. :)
