If anyone wants to use DivX to play their movies in GameEx, but needs to remove the tray icon you can get a program DivX wrote here:

http://support.divx.com/cgi-bin/divx.cfg/p...hp?p_faqid=1630

Trouble is, it only works for version 6 of the player and hasn't been updated to 6.5 (the latest version)

Looking through the forums, though, I found this post:

http://forums.divx.com/forum/viewTopic.php?id=3015

That explains how to get it to work in 6.5.

Guess what, worked like a charm ;)

I didn't want to use the old version of ffdshow because I had installed all my codecs using the K-Lite Mega Pack ( http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite..._Codec_Pack.htm )

which solved some problems I was having in Oblivion (PC Game)

FYI, before installing the K-Lite pack, I recommend running the following:

http://nightmare2013.brashendeavors.net/

This resets all your codecs to windows xp default. Don't worry it backs them up first, (I verified this.)

After reseting back to default, I just installed the K-Lite pack and used the defaults for everything.

Trouble was the DivX decoder had that darn icon and was minimizing my GameEx again.

Hence the desire to find a solution for the DivX decoder, rather than bastardizing my K-Lite install.

One other thing of note. Perhaps it's all the VM9 video enhancements Tom did, but my movies that were encoded with DivX now play MUCH better.

They used to pause before starting, but now they start up just as fast as the *.mng videos! This was a real surprise. Now I can arrow up and down through the list

and there is no stuttering whatsoever. Amazing how much tighter the whole application feels after this.

Again, I'm not sure if it's that the DivX decoder is decoding them rather than FFDShow or if it's improvements to GameEx. I just know it runs perfectly now!

Hope this helps somebody,

Matthew

Okay I've just tried this myself and there are issues with Angelic's method. The first problem is when you install K-Lite there is no DivX folder and the DivXToolbarToggleTool.exe does not work without an official install of DivX. I'm not sure what Angelic did to get this working I can only assume he installed the official DivX along with the K-Lite codec pack. But there is a better way without needing to do that!

1. Uninstall all codecs

2. Run the CODEC Reset Utility and launch menu.bat (if using XP Pro x64 Edition run menu64.bat instead).

3. Install K-Lite Codec Pack

Make sure you add a tick next to Xvid under DirectShow filters (GameEx will not work with the default ffdshow Xvid decoder in K-Lite!)

4. You don't need to do anything fancy to fix the DivX focus problem. Just run the attached registry file to fix it :) (BTW Tom you may like to add this to the install of GameEx to fix this problem once and for all!)

Everything should work fine now, the only problem is I don't notice any performance difference from using ffdshow-20051129.exe (which is the codec pack we usually recommend for GameEx) although my video snaps are in XVid format, so with DivX ones you may see an improvement as Angelic has mentioned.

There is one final problem, when viewing an mpg video under Videos in GameEx it will crash (only seems to happen in full screen). It does play the video for a few seconds before crashing so I would expect it to be a minor bug. Tom any chance you can take a look at this?

Yeah, it was a bug here. Fixed now.

Thanks Tom I will delete my threads here regarding this so people don't get confused about installing K-Lite.

Ya, my post was probably confusing. The first part was just how to make it work (i did in fact install a full version of DivX in addition to k-lite)

The K-Lite part was just why I was doing it :)

I looked in that registry file...what is SMExclusions?

If all your videos are XVid, are you even using the DivX decoder? (My videos were downloaded from EmuMovies, which were in DivX, at least that's what GSpot told me.)

Cool stuff :)

The SMExclusions registry setting tells DivX what processes not to use the DivX Tray application with. That way it does not steal focus with the programs listed there. I just added GameEx.exe and HideOS.exe to this which should solve the problem for GameEx.
