Hi i have a half year old version of gameex. i dont want to resetup all my paths, emulators, mame and so on. snap paths, reinstalling programs here and there.

is there a painless easy installation of a new version of gameex without doing this if you are not a registered member of gameex?

(i am not registrated yet)

any tips?

peace!

Yeah, just install the new version. It will use your old configuration files so you don't have to change anything. You might be wise to back up the configuration .ini file (don't remember the exact name...something like gameex.ini) just in case. I have never had a problem.

And as far as registration goes, the only difference between updating with and without is that registered users update automatically. Nonregistered users have to go to the website, download the file and install it (selecting the correct options).

yeah it so handy updating when your registered, GameEx just pops up a wee box on the main screen letting you know a new version is out and I just hit select on my cab and it takes care of everything for me :) my only niggle is that I have to reselect my custom exit keys in the 'Exit GameEx" plugin everytime but thats nothing major

Hey PimpDaddyStu,

I don't use the AutoUpdate, but I didn't like to reset my custom exit keys, what I did was to set the "Read Only" on the PluginExit.cfg file in the PLUGINS folder, and when the installer stops on that file I click Ignore, Bang no more reseting.

that worked a treat, many thanks ourgrace... auto update didn't even complain that it couldn't replace the file, it must be set to ignore automatically :)

actually it might not have worked completely as I've just noticed it didn't finish creating the shortcuts in the start menu like it usually does... is there an easy way for me to check if everything is up to date? when I run GameEx it doesn't tell me that an update is available but maybe only all the files up to PluginExit.ini have been updated and then it gave up because it couldn't overwrite that one?
