Two problems with Gameex. Video previews cause crash.

The first problem I figured out a workaround for, but its strange because I've never had it before. When scrolling the Genesis rom list GameEx would CTD when it tried to display the game title "Andrè Aggasi's Tennis." Apearently there is some kind of font problem with "è". I replaced the it with a regular "e" and it works fine.

The second problem is more serious. Every time I try to browse a game list that looks for a video preview it can't display the first video, just black and the sound, but then the whole pc hangs. I can use GameEx to play those very same videos through the GameEx video player. Ctrl-Alt-Del does nothing. I can suspend the PC with the power button on the MCE remote but when I press the button again it brings me back to the hung up desktop. the only thing i can do to get the PC back is through a hard reset.

Some more info. I recently reinstalled Windows MCE 2005. Today I installed GameEx and set it up like usually have it, at least I think so. But I've never had either of these problems before. I do have an ATI card and am using the Feb. 21st drivers. But it doesn't seem like the problem is what was mentioned in the FAQ. I turned off alpha blending and i am still having the same problem. The only codecs I have installed is a Mpeg2 decoder and ffdshow. I will post the log but my pc is recording something right now and i don't want it to crash right now.

The font issue might actually be fixed in the latest version,

In regard to FFDSHOW, I had this same issue when I installed FFDSHOW "Tryouts" which is some kind of newer build. The daily builds at ffdshow.sf.net is probably your best bet. I think HK is also hosting a copy as the links were down.

PS: What does CTD mean?

Thanks, that solved the problem. I typically get my codecs from free-codecs.com and the ffdshow version they have is as current as this past week. I wonder why that version doesn't work with the video previews. I wonder what the advantages are of the newer versions, I hope I don't miss them.

It might just have been a buggy release, but as I said I know FFDShOW "tryouts" don't work. Its a shame because that has ssome really good audio and video scaling features. Although you'd be pressed to make use of them. There certainly wont be any new benefits in regards to just playing videos and game previews.
