Right now MAME is my least fav...tho I think it is currently running all Neo-Geo games.

The net-play of the other three offers up more enjoyment.

I have yet to really look into Neo-Geo CD support in ether WinKawaks or FinalBurn Alpha...but I do know its supported in Nebula.

That all said I've been mainly toying around with FBA..hence my vote. :)

If your not interested in net-play or having a bunch of video filters to select from...just go with MAME...other wise give the others a look see.

I'm been pretty happy with winkawaks, mostly for the better performance in games like metal slug. In parts where Mame's emulation speed slows down in heavy action, kawaks seems to keep up much better with the action. I will give final burn a try too to see how it works.

I've noticed Metal Slug slow way down in extreme action before, but I thought it was just my system and so nothing could be done. Does winKawaks really make that much difference? Switching over would require a special list in GameEx since it wouldn't mesh in seamlessly like the Model2 or Zinc emus.

Just trying to figure out if it's worth the setup time. Thanks

Well you can find WinKawaks & Nebula setup files here.

Hehe and FinalBurn Alpha which isn't getting much love here.

So over all setup time should be low...unless you need a rom set.

Mainly yes..FBA I know has a few not in mame.

I haven't really looked closely at the roms...with nearly 3tb of storage I tend to be a bit of a pig. ;)

I've found several benefits to Kawaks over Mame. If you have a halfway decent system, it's support for different blitters and scanlines really improves the graphics, and also their low-pass audio filter cleans up the sound emulation on most titles. And like I mentioned, some titles in Mame that seem to bog down in heavy action are noticeablly smoother. I have not enabled kawaks in GameEx yet. Waiting till I try the other emus first before making the change. Kawaks does use most of the same roms from Mame, but support many other titles including some fun hacks to the metal slug series :) Pl3asuredome does have a full kawaks set available. It has 493 roms and weighs in @ 4.45Gb.

If Kawaks was substituted for MAME in the GameEx MAME list (like Model 2 and ZiNc) I would use it, but for me it's all MAMEPlus!. Of course I use MAMEplus! for the filters...

MAME handles these games just fine IMHO. I'm on satellite internet so I can't play games against anyone online anyways. :(

Does MAMEPlus! usually lag behind? I went to their website and they were still on 0.111. Having those filters looks nice, though. I always enable them in non-mame emulators.

I haven't noteced any lag really... It takes a while to get Metal Slug 5 started sometimes but generally I haven't had any issues at all. I don't mind using vanilla MAME (I switch back and forth all the time because the updates take so long to get here and I like to be on top of the newest games) and I haven't noticed anything with that either. Using it right now for .112 as a matter of fact.

Wouldn't it be nice if there was a way to add a rendering plugin for MAME? Then I wouldn't need plus at all.

Back to the point:

No real noticable slowdown on my machine on either one.

Oh hehe...i meant do they usually lag behind the MAME release? On the website it listed they were on 0.111u something while MAME is on 0.112u2

That's what I thought so I answered both questions nstead. :P

My fault. :)
