I just moved my whole installation to a newer PC (re installed everything) and now when I am browsing MAME games in GameEx I have a problem.

When a game simply has a snapshot as a preview it displays fine. But if the game has a movie preview then GameEx will minimize and the desktop is displayed. Nothing happens and I cannot get GameEx to maximize again.

I tried uninstalling DivX and then the movies wouldn't play but GameEx did not minimize. I reinstalled DivX (codecs+player) and the orig problem returned. I also tried just installing the DivX codecs and the same problem.

Should I be installing DivX at all or some other bundle of codecs ?

Cheers,

Brian.

Hi Brian, from http://tomspeirs.com/gameEx/docs.htm

Q: I've got video previews for an emulator and I've downloaded the official DivX software, but when a video plays GameEx goes back to the windows desktop.

A: There is an issue with the official DivX software where it creates a tray icon and then switches window focus to it. There is no technical need for DivX to do this, and I assume this is for marketing purposes, i.e. pop-ups. The best solution is to use FFDSHOW, which is actually technically superior to the official DivX, free and also allows you to play and visually enhance just about all video formats. You can get it here http://ffdshow.sf.net

Thanks Tom. My apologies for asking a question already answered in the docs.

Also be sure to download the lastest daily build and not the regular download of ffdshow. I first downloaded the regular version and the video was all choppy and upside down. I deleted that and reinstalled the daily build and it works great now.

Thanks. I did get teh daily build (2004 though!) alright and vids play fine now. Although I cannot record videos in GameEx for some reason. I uninstalled divx and now just have ffdshow installed.
