Hello,

I'm having trouble with the plugins included with GameEx. When I open up configure plugins it opens but I don't see anything written. There is a button to configure and exit but no plugins to choose from. I found them in the appropriate folder under GameEx but can't get them so show up. I have tried this with version 7.09 and 7.54. Is there something I need to turn on or configure somewhere else? I'll attach my log file but there is no problem running GameEx. Thanks in advance for any help.

Try uninstalling .net framework 1.1

I have had the same problem since the plugin system was released. There weren't any plugins I was interested in, so I never persued it, but now that there is a way to have different lists with the custom folders, I am very interested. I uninstalled the .net framework 1.1 and still no plugins listed. Any other ideas?

You don't need a plugin to create your own folders. It's an option under Basic MAME Settings. You just point GameEx at your favorites.ini file.

That is what you're asking, right?

Yes, I know they are different...

There is a plugin that allows you to add a password shutdown. I thought it might be possible to modify the source to do password protected folders (maybe not yet, but at some point). That way, you could have Mature titles still listed, but not available to minors (for instance).

Oh, a little update. I powered up my machine today and the plugin manager still doesn't display. But, when I connect via terminal services, it does work. So, this leads me to believe that one of the services that I disabled is required. Can anyone tell me what services MUST be running for the plugin manager to work?

Howdy,

I uninstalled .net framework 1.1 and still can not get the plugins to show up in Configure Plugins. I've attached my updated log. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do. Thanks again.

I'm not sure what this could be at the moment. What exactly displays in the Plug In Manager?

Also, try this debug version. It should only give two error messages about ledwiz.dll and possibly Mame.dll. The other error messages you should post about here.

I ran the debug version from both my main account and the remote login account. The main account I get some errors regarding the LEDWiz (as you mentioned), and some stuff at the bottom I didn't understand. When I ran it on the remote account (where the plugins DO show up), I get a longer error statement. I have attached the errors and the PM screens for each.

It looks to me like they are the same. I really think this is related to services though. I used Black Viper's list of services that were not needed to disable stuff that would just slow down the machine without benefit. My guess is that you are using one of these that is turned off. I will try to see which ones are different, but if you have a list of ones that MUST be on, that might be helpful.

Those errors are normal (for the debug version anyway). But it could be the theme your using or something, try setting your theme to a standard one. It could be the large fonts your using or anything. Try Windows XP and Windows Classic themes. See if that makes a difference.

Okay, that's definitely possible. I am using different resolutions on the different accounts, so perhaps the font on the TV is set too big for your application? I'm looking at the registry right now since there wasn't any difference in the services (in hindsight, this should be obvious since services are computer level, not account level...)

On the other hand, as long as I can enable, disable, and configure plugins through the remote account, this really isn't that important. But knowing what the problem is would be good.

Here's a screen shot of what the Plug In Manager is showing. It's not giving me any errors and GameEx is running fine. I'm sorry the only way I could get it here was paste it in a Word doc. Should I run the attached debug program?

Thanks.

I used the supplied plugin manager and still got the same blank screen. No errors. The only difference I noticed was that using the debug version it loaded much faster but again just showed me a configure screen with no plugins to configure. Anything else I can do?

Thanks.

Can you try this version

I tried the newest plugin manager and got the same result (just like the screenshot I attached earlier). It's like it can't find the plugins. I checked, I have a folder called plugins in the GameEx file. It has files in it and I let GameEx install to the default location.

Just to make sure I'm doing everything right. I'm just uncompressing the executable file to my desktop and running it. Let me know if I need to put the .exe file somewhere else, etc.

Thanks again for you help.

HK, I tried the new PM as well, but it didn't change the results (as sty151 said). Is this possibly related to tv output vs vga/dvi output? I suppose I could plug an old monitor into it to see if that changes anything. Is that worth a try?

I was also able to get the plugins to show. Several look like quite a bit of fun.

Thanks for all of your help.
