Hi all, thanks in advance.

Registered version of gameex. Win XP sp2 up to date patch-wise.

Any time I open an emulator other than mame32, game ex will switch resolutions and go to it fine. When I exit the game, gameex returns as it should. When I try to play a second game, however, either in the same emulator or in another, Gameex goes to a black screen, flickers a few times, and then returns to gameex window. If I shut down gameex and reopen it, I still cannot open a game. Essentially, I am limited to opening one game through gameex before I have to reboot.

I'm using an Nvidea graphics card hooked up to a television. When I have the computer hooked up to a regular monitor, this problem ceases.

Has anyone had a similar problem? And if so, any solutions or ideas on where to start? I would hate to have to return to mamewah simply due to this reason (especially after paying the fee).

Thanks again.

Can you post you log file?

START -> All Programs -> GameEx -> Log File

Here's the log file you requested. Hope it makes more sense to you than it does to me. In this instance, I started contra, played for a second or two. quit. tried to start it again, but it wouldn't load. I then selected a sega game which also wouldn't load. I know the paths are correct, because gameex will boot these same games the first time I select them every time. It's when I exit out and return they won't load. Also, this only happens when I have the comp hooked up to my tv. Since it's running in a cab, this is important to me. It seems like it may have trouble switching resolutions or something (flickers and then goes black, then returns to gameex)

Thanks again,

Any way you can force resolution in the emulator so GameEx doesn't have to do it? NEStopia, for example, has an ini that I can specify the resolution in. If so, can you try that and let me know what happens?

It almost sounds to me like your emulator isn't terminating in the background.

I'll switch to nestopia, try it, and let you know.

Try making sure GameEx doesn't switch resolutions. Its in the setup wizard under display settings turn on don't switch resolutions. If that doesn't work. Specify a certain resolution for GameEx to use. Something like 800x600. I'm not sure what your television can handle. May be a refresh rate problem between gameex and your tv. I use a Tv an have no problems. I'm also using an ATI card. Let us know how it goes.

Problem fixed.

XP, and likewise, Gameex, were running at 32bit color depth. FCEU was running at 16bit. When I loaded the game, the resolution stayed the same, but the depth switch caused the flickering. I have no idea why, but upon changing FCEU to 32bit color, I am now able to exit games and then return to them without any trouble. Also, no flicker.

Neither Zsnes or Gens have been causing me problems, but both still have the flicker. If they cause me problems in the future, at least now I'll have a starting point at which to check.

Thanks to everyone for the help.

Its been a while since i've fired up GameEx and have recently updated mame to 0.111.0.0 everything seems to be working flawlessly but when i try and load a mame title the process starts but then returns me back to the play this game screen. I have checked my config and am clueless as to why its happening. everything else is loading properly. If anyone has any suggestions id appreaciate it.

I had a similar issue trying to use Daphne a while back but the issue then was something Tom had to input on a following rls of GameEx. I have also adjusted the rez with no luck. Is anyone else experiencing the same problem ??

Issue resolved : ) I didnt think to check the FAQ's (user error)

Thanks Tom

I just set up GE and all the emulators do this. I have game lists showing, just GE tries to play then craps out. I didn't see this in the FAQ - what did you do?

Q: I'm using a recent version of MAME (.106 or newer), I'm a registered user and I've read all the other suggestions but games do not run it just returns to GameEx. On closer inspection it appears that only vertical games do not run such as Pac Man.

A: You can fix this by turning off the "Use Bezel" option under "Basic MAME Settings" in the configuration application.

Q: I've been using GameEx a while and just upgraded my version of MAME. Every time I launch a game it just returns to GameEx,

A: Certain command line options were removed from MAME in recent versions. Go into GameEx configuration > Advanced MAME Configuration. Look at the line that says CMD/Command options and remove the text that says -skip_disclaimer.

No, I saw those. But I went ahead and looked. 1) I already have no bezels selected. 2) I don't even see that other thing - but I ain't running advmame, anyway. a) it's not just vertical games - it's all games. b ) it ain't just mame - it's VP, O2EM, etc.

Its not for advance mame emu. Its advanced settings. ;)

Okay. I still don't see anything, on any of the three pages in that config menu, that says, either, CMD/Command options, or a box with -skip_disclaimer in it..

Dude, that's over the top. I was going through the configuration utility within GE, itself, which has all the same options. Being literal, I thought CMD/Command was a title to look for in the list. (You can tell I don't do command line.) Still, in the vid, it looked like you just sort of reselected what was already there in those two boxes. So I did that, and I got a very fast squiggle of video-something, before it defaulted back to the game's start page. I dunno.....

Incidentally, I haven't any longer, for about a day or so, had MAME on the start page, even though it's selected in the parametres. I then changed it so it'd be in the line-up - nothing. Changed it back - nothing. Maybe I'm just not supposed to use this.

I didn't mean for you to just click the boxes. I was just showing you where they were. You need to edit them to suit your needs. I'm a little tired now, but in one of the options you can have Mame on the start page or not. You of course have somehow turned it off. Just go into the setup wizard. Click Advanced. Just take your time and browse through all the pages. Make sure to click on the "?" to the right of the boxes for explanations. If you still can't find it. I do another flash for you.
