[RESOLVED] GameEx Arcade - need to hit esc, then enter, to make first selection at opening menu

Running GameEx Arcade (18.17) on Windows and have had this problem ever since installing and running GameEx Arcade, all versions.  Finally getting around to asking for help.

In a nutshell...I need to hit esc, then enter, to make the first selection ("All Games") at the opening menu.  If I just hit "enter" on the menu option I want, nothing happens.  I must hit "Esc" then "Enter".  I believe this happens only the first time the computer starts up and on the first use of GameEx Arcade.  After I do that sequence once, subsequent startup/exits of the app do not replicate the issue until the computer is shutdown and restarted fully, then the problem appears again on first run of the app.

I should state that I'm using a homemade arcade setup and I'm using console buttons for "enter" and "Esc". The buttons are attached to an Ultimarc Ultimate IO keyboard emulator.

As I'm typing this I realize I have not tested this on keyboard only and should experiment with that more to see if it's a keyboard emulation problem, but either way I'd like to get it resolved with the buttons.

Just did a couple tests and it does appear to be a keyboard emulation problem.  Upon first startup, if I hit the button mapped to "enter" it doesn't work, even if I hit it repeatedly, until I hit the esc-mapped button, then the the enter-mapped button will work.  But upon first startup, if  I hit the enter key on the keyboard it appears to work every time.  I guess the next thing I'll try is a keyboard tester app or website to see if the enter-mapped button works at all after a fresh computer restart or if it's a GameEx-specific problem.

But I'm still open to suggestions.  Thx!

EDIT:  It must be a keyboard emulation problem.  Running a keyboard tester website upon startup verified the enter button doesn't work until the esc-mapped button is used first.  May be possible another mapped button would allow the enter-mapped button to work but need to test.  Also want to state that I have GameEx Arcade starting on the comp automatically...is that a factor?  I have Joy2Key auto-running on startup also...a contributing factor?  Still open for suggestions.  I understand if you mark this closed.  Maybe it would help someone else someday. Had one thought. Maybe the GameEx window does not have the focus? Ive seen that before.
