Can you post a topic with a list to all your tutorials for me? Links would also be helpful... I intend to build a web portal on the ConfigHQ to house them all.

Thanks and great work (as always!)

Okay. I threw together a quick 'portal' to house your tutorials. I'll be downloading them throughout the day.

Keep me updated as new ones roll in. :)

Heh you sure you want to ask such a question? ;)

You could go through and explain in detail how to work with filters, virtual CD\DVD drives, commandline setup for Emu's...the use of wrappers, proper methods of setting up a sane file directory structure, how to create custom *.map files and why this might be disired, understanding region codes and other markup in the naming of roms, different formats that roms come in (binary, 7zip, iso, iso+wav, iso+mp3,...)

HI

nologic

i will second that list above,it would be great not to have to search everywhere ,if the man is kind enough to use some spare time to do this.

I am sure there will be a lot of people like myself who find somethings just out of there reach.

I read a lot in the forum when looking for problems i have, and some of the things they ask and are answered are way past me .

But hopefully as i read more i learn more and in time help others.

Keep up the good work

thank you Peter

I'm going to start working on tutorials for the Theme Editor. My 1st goal is to be able to help people use aspects of GE. I have no problem doing others for clrmamepro and such. I may have to get with you for autoIt. I have no clue how that works. :D Here is the 1st part in a series I will be providing over time. Please let me know of any errors.

21up -

You can find a fair amount of info @ easyEmu tho lingpanda video's are a lot more flash, and easier to follow along with.

lingpanda -

I look forward to the theme tut's as I will be giving that a go my self here in the next week. Tho I do wonder if there is any interest in 16:9 formated themes...or if I should just stick to 4:3...any ways.

Well with GameEx as with most FE's the bulk of the new users are clueless about every thing...once some one has learned every thing required...they have their FE of choose setup...and are not likely to change to a different one for giggles. :)

I started out with MameWah...and had it most of the way setup...then lost interest as it just seemed like to much work...tho I'm sure I missed some thing...the sheer amount of files I was working with was insane. A year or so later I stumbled upon GameEx and things have over all clicked with me and this FE.

Hmm lost the point I was looking to make...oh yeah...hehe...the point is that for a new user...they are starting at ground zero and working their way up the food chain to the icing on the cake which is the FE...in our case GameEx.

I've been toying with the idea of doing of rather extensive doc's for GameEx...but I need to learn InDesign & Acrobat fully before I do...figured if I was going to get out of hand with printed doc's...the presentation should be out of hand as well. ;)

Any ways thanks for taking the time to create these tut's for those looking to get in the know about things. :)

*Update*

Checked out the tut...and it looked good.

Nice lingpanda. Just for future reference though, objects that can't be dragged around with the mouse (buttons/background etc) are because they are locked by default. This is so you don't accidently move them around. You can unlock an object so you can move/resize it with the mouse by clicking on the little padlock icon.

Oh snap! Never knew that. I will update my video. Thanks.

I'm not sure 16:9 themes are in high demand. Only because I think many users aim to use this software in a cab with arcade monitor or TV.. I would still invest time in a 16:9 theme though. I don't think GE has any. :) There are not alot of themes designed with Arcade monitors in mind. Very little with resolutions under 640x480. I think GE would be used more if we had more themes with resolutions suited for arcade monitor users. Anywho. You have been a great assest to GE. Winkawaks for the win! :D

Yeah 16:9 only came to mind because of my laptop. :)

Well if you'll compile a list of popular arcade rez's I'll look into doing up some...as I'm cabless in Seattle...hehe so I'm not in the know about them.

Doing some thing like 10 different rez's is fine by me...I just don't want to be doing all possible. 8(

Hehe I still earned brownie points off that eh. :)

Oh some other tools that might be useful to have tuts for: HashTab QuickPAR QuickSFV

Okay here is one that most probably never thought about using....Link Shell Extension.

Actually let me give a little why one would want to use hard links. Lets say you have a video of game play for Street Fighter Alpha...now you have several Emu's that run this game, and you want to have the video displayed for each of the Emu's. Now since GameEx generally only supports files from one directory, instead of multiple...you would general have to make multiple copies of the video to use...this can eat up a lot of space quickly, or different Emu's use different naming schemes.

This is where hard links become a blessing. :) Think of them basically like shortcuts, execpt more closer to the metal so to say. Basically you have only one real physical instance of the video file, but you have a number of shortcuts from the other Emu's to that file, this makes every thing seemless to GameEx.

Hope that explains them...sort of...

I would like some feedback on this one. I'm sure Ive missed a few things. Anything I need to change? Hard to follow or understand? I'll update post if things change. Thanks.

I think it's perfect, the only things you could add but I wouldn't bother are the following. I'm really only going to say these for future reference, I don't think you need to change anything.

- When you browse for your Mame folder in Basic Mame Settings it will automatically try to fill in the Mame exe and the other folders for you (if it finds them). You don't really need to say this though.

- MAME Options in the Advanced MAME Settings I think these days you need say "-video dd" to force it to use the old Direct Draw rendering (for older machines). And "-video d3d" for faster video cards. Although I think it uses d3d by default in newer versions of Mame.

- Verify ROMs seems to get people sometimes. I'm not sure if mentioning it would confuse more than help though.

- After you run the Verify Setup function, you can mention that you can use the Back button to fix any errors you've made. Again I think this is mentioned in the Wizard anyway so not worth putting in.

I like how your using the Custom Wizard mode, it certainly saves some time. Nice work lingpanda!
