To whom it may concern:

I got this email and when I responded, my old buddy Daemon sent it back to me. If you wrote this, I'm putting it in a thread so we can help you. Good luck!

Hello I am new to game ex and have been trying to setup the pinball emulators, I have been using pinball sim on the computer before which uses vp launcher to launch both visual pinball and vpinmame for the displays, I was wondering if your post shown below could setup game ex so I could use vpinmame on game ex. I have setup mame and it works great but when I try to vpinmame I have problems. After loading game ex I can go to emulators and it shows vpinmame, I click on that and it loads all of pinball tables but does not show the pinball table names just the rom file names abbreviated. When I click on a particular table it starts the vp launcher and game ex minimizes and vp launcher loads just like as if I launched the program from the desktop and I still have to scroll through the pinball tables again to start a table and when I exit out of the table it goes back to the game ex menu showing the pinball tables in game ex. Is there a way to start vpinmame through game ex, have it list the pinball tables available for play and when you click on play this game through game ex it starts the pinball table automatically? Also when you exit the pinball table with the escape button have game ex return to start a different table? Game ex works perfectly for mame but I cant seem to get vpinmame configured correctly to work the same way.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

First things first:

I was wondering if your post shown below could setup game ex so I could use vpinmame on game ex.

Yes, it's possible to set up Visual Pinball on GameEx. There's a handy walk-thru here as well as here that you might want to check out.

Next:

After loading game ex I can go to emulators and it shows vpinmame, I click on that and it loads all of pinball tables but does not show the pinball table names just the rom file names abbreviated.

It appears that you have your tables folder pointed at the ROMS folder. To use Visual Pinball / PinMAME, you need to point the browser at the Tables folder that contains your .vpt files, not the ROM files for each table. They're two seperate things. You can play the table without the ROM file (sometimes), but you cannot play the ROM without the Table. The ROM only simulates the whole game experience - like sounds, music, etc.

Now:

When I click on a particular table it starts the vp launcher and game ex minimizes and vp launcher loads just like as if I launched the program from the desktop and I still have to scroll through the pinball tables again to start a table and when I exit out of the table it goes back to the game ex menu showing the pinball tables in game ex.

Unless you forgot to set up the command line option to -play it shouldn't do this. Unless, of course, this is related to the previously mentioned problem.

Finally:

Is there a way to start vpinmame through game ex, have it list the pinball tables available for play and when you click on play this game through game ex it starts the pinball table automatically? Also when you exit the pinball table with the escape button have game ex return to start a different table?

There is a way to start Visual Pinball in GameEx. You should probably already know that VpinMAME is only a plugin for Visual Pinball. Without Visual Pinball, VpinMAME cannot stand. :)

If you have map keys set to 'yes' then GameEx will kill Visual Pinball and return you to your GameEx GUI. Then, you will be able to launch the next table and play.

If you have any other questions, feel free to post and someone will help you out.
