I almost have GameEx working and configured the way I want (excellent program!) but am having a problem with the main configuration application (not the quick configuration) hanging when attempting to save my changes. I end up having to CTRL-ALT-DELETE out of the application and end it manually. This usually ends up with a 50/50 percent chance of the change being saved. Has anyone else seen this problem?

Thanks!

works well for me (tested on

WinXP SP1 P4 (256 mem), Fujitzu-Siemens Board

WinXP SP2 Athlon 1300 (512 MB Mem), Asus Board

WinXP SP2 Athlon 2800 (1 GB Mem), AsRock Board

WinXP-MCE SP2 Athlon 2800 (512 MB Mem), Barebone with NForce2

I will say that mine *almost* hangs after hitting the save button. Things seem to lock up for a few seconds while it saves (it usually takes about 10 seconds to commit the changes for some reason) but then it frees itself after that and all is fine.

Thanks for the replies, I'll test to see if maybe I'm just not waiting long enough... I've also been going back and forth using Remote Desktop from a laptop to make changes and maybe that is part of the problem. I did update to the latest version last night as well.

How fast is your computer? It takes almost 60 seconds to save the config on my P4 3.0ghz. I didn't realize it was going that slow, but I just timed it...

Tom, any idea what's taking so long? It wasn't this slow initially...

Thanks for the feedback, my system is slower so I'm now definately thinking I'm just not waiting long enough. I'll try it tonight...

That did it... The configuration screen doesn't hang, it just sits for a while and then comes back. Mine took about a minute and a half.

Yes, Ill look at it, it only takes a maximum of 5 seconds on 3 of my systems, and on my 3400 Athlon 64 with 1GB (my Living room HTPC PC) about 1 second. So I doubt this is happening for everyone, therefore dont really know what's causing it. I know it does take a fair bit longer than it used to save as theres a lot more settings, but a minute on a 3GHZ is crazy!

Have you got latest version of the .net framework including service pack? What RAM do you two have?

I do have the latest version of .net but I'm not certain about the service pack. I could double check that... I also have 256meg of ram in this machine. It almost looks like it's timing out on something...

since its happening on mine too ill tell you my specs - its a slower computer (733mhz, 512 RAM, Newest Net Framework and XP Syspack 2)

I also have very slow saving of configuration on my very new laptop. Strangely it works just fine on my crappy arcade cabinet (see specs below).

My machine has a gig of ram. I'm running MCE 2k5 so I have .NET framework 1.1. There's a "security update" for it so I'll try installing it.

Maybe I should send you my config dir to see if it has something to do with the way my config files are set up?

When you save the config, is it checking any paths? Your default configurations contain a ton of wild drive letters (I'm assuming from your setup). If one of those drive letters happens to be a disconnected network share or DVD drive or something maybe it's timing out looking for something? I don't have the code so I have no clue what it's doing during that time. :)

I have a diff prob

I install Game Ex, then run it

update the game list and everything is cool

If i turn the puta off, then back on again, the boot screen of Game Ex comes up , then goes off, coming up with the error text. the last line it says its trying to load the games list, but gets errors and quits

running an old 667 pc with the service pack installed.

I reset all the setup files and it still doesnt want to boot up Game Ex

OK.

1. Make sure your running the latest version of GameEx 4.07. If not install it.

2. If that does not fix it goto 3:)

3. Open My Computer or Windows Explorer

4. Navigate to C:\program files\GameEx\Data

5. Delete 'Gamelist.txt'

6. Run GameEx

7. Update List again.
