I have a bunch of avi videos for n64 games, and I am setting up a system specifically for GameEx. I created a directory c:\Project64\Movies, and set that to the video/snapshot path in GameEx, and every video preview has the same name as the n64 rom. I have the exact same setup on my other pc, and it plays the video previews for n64 games fine, but on my GameEx system it doesn't even attempt to play the video preview (the GameEx background music keeps playing, and I can browse the roms as normal without video previews).

I can play every video on my gameex system using windows media player, and I have the ffdshow filter installed (it shows the ffdshow icon in the systray when I play a video). Is there a specific option in GameEx to enable/disable video previews? I'm not quite sure why it is not showing video at all.

I've not tried to use videos for any other emulators besides MAME. Something you could do is check your MAME videos in GameEx and see if they work. If they don't, then you're probably having a driver or codec problem. It sounds like it might be codec, but you said you can view them in Media Player. It might have something to do with your video mode in GameEx. Did you change the option to force 16-bit mode? If so, change it back. If not, try setting it to 16-bit mode and see if that helps. I don't really know what else to try though because, like I said, I haven't tried to use videos for anything else yet (not enough drive space).

I am very sure that there is not a problem with the codec, I have the same setup on my desktop pc (ffdshow filters), and I can play the videos in windows media player fine. I tried turning on and off the force 16-bit option, but it didn't fix the problem. I don't have any mame videos, but I do have mame snapshots, and those all work correctly (display at the lower left hand corner).

Ok, it looks like the problem was that I was using the offline list file N64_OL.zip, after I deleted it the video now plays. The problem is now that it plays the audio, but there is no video (just a black box). If I move up or down when the video is playing, GamEx freezes up and I have to kill it with task manager (no error shown). So any ideas?

You should also make sure you don't have the official DivX/XVid codecs installed as they will often be used instead of ffdshow and they don't work with GameEx. Also the latest version of ffdshow will not work with GameEx. So uninstall ALL of your codecs then install ffdshow-20051129.exe.

Thanks for the help. I must have had a beta of ffdshow. It works great now! I am glad you don't mind sharing your knowledge.
