I just saw the announcement that sling is shutting down Slingbox.   There probably is a way with old hardware and old 1.5x software to get things working without their backend servers, but that is someone else's project.

SlingFront was the backbone of my "Entertainment System" for many years and I just wanted to say thanks to all those who worked hard on creating and maintaining this little project.  

I will raise a glass tonight to toast the end of an era.   Thanks again!

It ain't over ! Someone might figure it out. I mean these slingboxes used to work before hitting their servers. At the least using it around the house would be nice.

I wish I had the ability to help to rewrite the software as my EchoStar is still going strong for when I am away from home.  Isn't there a way to access these machines via VPN or Dyn.Dns? Surely Sling used a similar system to find the machines and control them.

Yes, there is an app that replaces Sling servers: https://github.com/GerryDazoo/Slinger
Currently the old models Pro/ Solo/ Pro-HD have been bricked by the Company, but the few non-bricked ones, as well the newer versions work fine with Slinger.
