Hi,

1) Problem related to amos_82 theme Future Retro

What is the minimal resolution to which I can use it in gameEx ? 640*480 ???

I've an ARCADEVGA with BETSON 27'' Multisynch

Default BluEx 640*480 gives me no issue at all.

Future_Retro gives me an DirectX error.

What is strange is that if I try to select in the configurator "Switch to resolution" with 640*480 specified

Your theme appeared as out of the screen, I am only seeing the first quarter of the picture (top left hand corner).

Why are new theme not mentioning resolution in the Theme selection picker ?

1bis) How can we resize any theme available to our whish ? I mean to a lower resolution than the one proposed... lost of arcade emu fan do have cab with arcade monitor or better a multisynch monitor.

This means that theme with resolution higher than 640*480 is useless for them... Just my 2 cents....

I think that it is the main reason why other mame cab user are not using Gameex and remain with others frontend

2) The problem with using lists in all themes were related to videos.

It seems that GameEx froze when trying to display video of the game selected (Yes I have ffdshow installed).

Are avi file a problem ?

It is the official pack of videos available at Pleasuredome

3) Run in ArcadeMode (Turn ArcadeMode on even if displaying at a suitable resolution).

I can't see the point of that setting ?

It means that if 800*600 is fored it will run in arcademode either ? but what is arcademode exactly ?

4) In the configurator, the shift key for Alphapaging and Volume is different, but I have seen some control instruction sticker done by member of the forum on which it seems that is only one shift buttons and that volume up and down is done with 2p Stick. ? How can it be ?

5) If I select Mame32gui emulator to be run under Gameex, do I have to specify -video ddraw -nohmwstrech in Gameex if there are selected in Mame32gui ?

6) Mame32 !Plus is listing 6286 games where Gameex just 5240 games (No filter, adult and mahong games allowed). I've seen this issue quite a number of time in the forum but no real answer.

Maybe Tom should review the code behing the listing games function...

... more questions to come :-)

Thanks in advance for your help

See you soon

Hi Jontox,

Sorry your getting errors, but the smallest res for this theme is 800x600, I cant make the theme work for 640x480, because the font size does not go small enough to make the menu/database box fit with the background.

If you want to try 800x600, then replace the theme.ini and images with the ones in the '800 x 600 Resolution' folder.

If 800x600 is too large you may have to try a different theme, sorry bud

[EDIT]

Just thought of a long shot:

1. Replace the theme.ini and images with the ones in the '800 x 600 Resolution' folder.

2. Open this new theme.ini and change the X and Y resolution to:

XResolution=640

YResolution=480

This probably wont work, but its worth a try :)

Have you set gameex to show clones?

Thanks for your comment.

I'll try that for sure.

I suppose the 800*600 folder is included in the theme pack.

Yes, I have selected Show clones with the conifgurator, perhaps it is not putting yes in the Gameex Ini file correctly.

I will check it asap.

Thanks

#6 -> make sure you have the option "only working games" set to no. Mame will display all the games it knows it can play, but not fully working (like, graphic problems, or bad sound). GameEx, however, ignores these 'partially' working games, and only shows the ones that are full on WORKING. Setting the filter to NO will tell GameEx to just list ALL the games. It's up to you to remember which games are just partially working ones.

No you dont have to. If you provide something to mame via the command line - it will override teh stored setting with your new value

Say in mame32gui - you set your video to Direct 3D...but in Gameex you provide these parameters:

-video ddraw -nohmwstrech

It will use Direct Draw because you specified it

If you only provided this for the paramters

-nohmwstrech

...it would Direct 3d like you setup within Mame32gui itself

My two cents on this:

I downloaded EMU Movies also and my GameEx did not freeze up, although te AVI files I downloaded would not display correctly. This turned out to be more of a Windows XP issue and is (esentially) unrelated to GameEx.

My fix ffor this problem: I had to remove the XVID or DIVX codec before installing FFDShow. There seems to be some code conflict with official DIVX / XVID codecs and the FFDShow codec pack.

Most of the theme creators here (myself included) either use HD or VGA monitors on their cabs (which is my case) so all resolutions work just fine. My theme will be available in 640x480 although my personal environment doesn't require a low resolution so I've been working on it slowly.

GameEx default themes work just swimmingly with all resolutions, so for now you may just have to settle for now - or create a theme of your own on your PC. With HeadKaze's theme editor, it's simple to convert layouts, you would just have to (essentially) resize the backgrounds yourself in Photoshop or what have you. That would be my solution for a 'quick fix'

Hope that helps! :)

Hi All,

Thanks for all you replies... with your help I managed to solve quite all my issues:

1 and 1bis) --> I've tried amos82 suggestion with no result. However I have pointed out that V1 Theme gave no error when running them in 640*480 while other V2 like Future Retro gives Directx Error when you force them to 640*480 and you reach games list.

I'll post a suggestion for the Theme editor in order to make each V2 Theme created compatible with lower resolutions, or at least a way to easily convert them to 640*480 or 640*288.

2) The problem were avi files. As Adultery suggested they could be an issure with FFdShown codecs and avi file s from Pleasuredome.

I've switched to MNG files (Crashtest collections) and they are working like a dream.

5) Thanks for your reply Atari800

6) Thanks hansolo77, you were right. Show only working games was flagged ON. Turning it OFF makes GameEx showing 6286 games :-)

I'm left with a few unanswered questions, here there are ...

--- Remaining questions ---

3) Run in ArcadeMode (Turn ArcadeMode on even if displaying at a suitable resolution).

I can't see the point of that setting ?

It means that if 800*600 is fored it will run in arcademode either ? but what is arcademode exactly ?

7) I've Nemo32 Plus! for all my Neogeo roms.

Is there a way to tell GameEx that if I browse Neogeo game list in Mame that he has to browse Nemo32 game list and not Mame game list ?

Furthermore I would like to be able to run each Neogeo games with Nemo32 PLus.

Do I have to configure Nemo32 as another Emulator ?

You can actually resize backgrounds in the Theme Editor. What you do is select the background, then press the little lock icon to unlock the object, then either type the new width and height into the boxes or drag it to the new size using the handles on the corners of the image.
