you need a sound card that supports dolby digital live encoding :D

i have one and all the outputs are digital not just dvd's

Me too... :)

You can get a dolby card and dolby speakers for a reasonable cost nowadays.

So gameex doesnt support SPDIF passthrough?

What soundcard are you using? See if it has a setting somewhere for this option? Also, make sure you use digital output only option if you have it. See if that works.

Since his amplifier should have DD decoding, he should not need a card with that feature unless gamex somehow blocks the passthrough.

the Sound card i have has a coax out which is a single cable all the outputs are in digital could be a DVD or mp3 the or any sound

the card is a HDA Mystique 7.1 gold

i know i had a few problems with creatvie cards i got dvds playin with digital out but sempt like a waste or time because i had digital speakers and i never realy watch dvds on my pc so i found the above card and never looked back

there are only a few sound cards that i know of that support live DD encoding thats the one i have and the Old NForce 2 Onboard sound card both have the single coax cable. this will be the only way to get 5.1 digital output all the time baring in mind gameex dont pay Dobly for the licence to endcode into its DD format ;)that will be why DD dosnt work in gameex, my way bypasses this.

the one main advantage is you can rock the house as the sound dosnt break up as easly :D

I agree with all that, I used to use the soundstorm and loved it for that reason alone! But the OP is talking about DVD playback. DVD's are already encoded in DD or DTS. All you need is a decoder which just about any home theater amplifier has. If he connects his HTamp via SPDIF cable (coax or optical) he should be able to just stream the DD track from the DVD and decode it at the amplifier. Anything other than DD encoded streams would just be sent in a 2 chanel digital format. Usually PCM.
