Gamepad Device to Use Doesn't Save My Selection

In the Input Settings section of the GameEx Setup Wizard, I select the gamepad device I wish to use then exit. I confirm the selection I made is recorded in GameEx.ini (joystickDevice=GenericUSBJoystick), but when I re-open the setup wizard all I see is a blank box int he Gamepad Device to use drop down. The gamepad I selected does not work in GameEx. Any ideas?

I was so close to solving it - I figured it out right after I posted this. Windows had added (or the joystick self-reported) the name of the joystick with 3 spaces appended to the name. This appears to have mixed up GameEx. I removed the 3 spaces in the registry by following these instructions: 

 

I was then able to save the modified joystick name in Gameex's setup wizard and when I closed and reopened, the joystick name was populated.
