GameEx upgrade problems

Tom, I finally had a few hours to take the plunge and upgrade, I had less than stellar results.

I copied my custom Bluex theme before upgrading just in case, however...

When I use the new BlueEx 640x480 theme I have the old problem where the system jpg shows up behind each item on the main list and looks garbled. I can probably sort this one out myself by looking for the custom jpg files that were created a long time ago to fix this problem.

When I use my old custom BlueEx theme (running 16bit) I get the following error:

08:35:22.7 5/4/2005: Creating DirectDraw Surfaces

08:35:22.7 5/4/2005: Creating Primary Surface - Full Screen Mode

08:35:22.7 5/4/2005: Creating Back Buffer

08:35:22.7 5/4/2005: Loading graphic surfaces

08:35:25.4 5/4/2005: ERRORS DETECTED: EXITING

And when I try to use my Joystick (iPAC) it no longer works. However it's not working outside of GameEx either, so I am pretty sure this isn't your problem. Going to reboot and see if that takes care of the iPAC.

Seems like a minor problem to me

I am not sure what you mean by System JPEG. Are you talking about the rectangle that gets displayed behind each item in the list? I think the file is called unselected.bmp so just copy/replace that file for the new themes.

Confirm that's it and ill update it in the next release.

Yes, it is unselected.bmp. Be fixed in next install.

In the meantime - Its attached here.

PS. I dont think I changed any control/input features for a while. Cant think while IPAC would not work.

OK, the iPac was fixed by a reboot

The unselected.bmp/jpg from the old bluex config fixed the new one.

The old BlueEx theme and the Video Fun theme still error out with the above text in the log. However I fiddled with the new BlueEx 640x480 theme long enough to get it working again so I am happy for now.

Still want to try out those MNG files, perhaps you could post a couple of smaller/popular ones into the forum (themes?) to test before I go trying to get the whole set. You seem to think they won't run well on old hardware so it would be prudent to test a couple first.

Mostly I just copied different jpg files from the old to the new and changed the font and some other lines in the ini file to match the old config. Nothing major, never bothered to figure out why Video Fun and the old BlueEx theme don't work, just happy that I got the new BlueEx theme functioning the way I like it.

I could maybe take a video of my system at some point and post it here so people can see what I have done. Assuming anyone actually cares as it's very emulation specific (no htpc at all).

How about posting a couple of MNG files for testing purposes?
