I just started using GameEx a few days ago so I'm still pretty much a noob at this...

Anyway, I got GameEx up and running MAME and Nestopia VERY quickly. I was so impressed that I donated right away to get the full version.

Anyway, here is my problem... When playing a MAME game... If I hit "L" either on my keyboard or my joystick (I have a Slikstik controller) it pauses the game and then all I see is a garbled screen. When I hit "L" again, it puts me back into the game right where I left off. I'm not using any JOY to Key or Key to Key programs, and I've already tried turning off the custom keys... and I'm still getting the same results. This is definitely not MAME, because I can run MAME without GameEx and the problem isn't there.

For some reason GameEx is changing the input from "L" to "L P" ...whatever that is.... Anyone know why this is happening or how I can get rid of this??

Thanks for taking the time to read this...

By default GameEx will try to show the in game control panel when using the L key. (Doesn't look like yours is working though!). To change this you need to change the value of the Advanced MAME: Ingame CP View VK field via the GameEx config application. If you never want to see the CP ingame just blank the field. You can also reassign the VK (Virtual Key) to another value. Look in GameEx/CONFIG/EMULATORS/VKCodes.htm for translations...

That was it! Thanks a million Shaun! It's a bummer I can't get the CP to display correctly during a game, but it's no big deal. I can always look at it before I start a game.

Thanks again!

Hmm, my SlikStik has the trackball and the second button is assigned the letter L, every time I try to play missle command the cp view comes up. I have blanked out that value like you suggested in the GameEx configuration (and made sure it stayed blanked), but hitting that second fire button in game is STILL bringing up the cp view! any other suggestions?

Edit this in the gameex config.

AWESOME! that worked like a charm. I truly can't thank everyone enough for the help. I can FINALLY enjoy that game the way it's supposed to be.
