What's Winkawaks? I can download it and try it out but I never heard of it... What does it emulate?

Posted

So it's like a better CPS1/2 emulator? Like Model 2 / ZiNc? I wonder if Tom's thinking about implementing this already...

I'll give it a throw & let ya know. :)

Man, that's an old wish of mine. To make Winkawaks and Final Burn Alpha run on GameEX.

They both emulate CPS1, CPS2 and NeoGeo roms, but faster than Mame.

Lingpanda, could you send me your winkawaks configuration, please?

thanks!

On another note. Maximus Arcade frontend can use winkawaks. So I know its possible.

I'm sure it is possible. Just a matter of asking Tom. Throw a post up in the Feature Request thread.

I must of deleted my earlier post to you. Which config do you want? My winkawaks or my gameex winkawaks config? I can set up winkawaks in gameex fine. I can even see my snaps and list of games. Once I choose my game it now loads fullscreen and plays the game fine. Everything is cool till i try and exit back to gameex.

Do you have MapKeys set to True? If you do ESC should reload GameEx... Just curious.

Yeah I do but...... Its always a but. I am only able to get the game to run via. a windows shortcut. I believe this disables map keys. I can't get the emulator to start with linking straight to the exe file in the GameEx's config. This is how I have it. "command line" = kawaks.lnk [rom] -fullscreen. It will not work with kawaks.exe. I have to use a shortcut. So this disables map keys correct? Kawaks requires pausing emulation before quiting. Plus you can not exit kawaks with esc.(As far as I know). It will only exit fullscreen. So I'm stumped.

Judgelord,

Make any progress? Can Winkawaks exit without pausing emulation?

Posted
Lingpanda, unfortunately no progress so far, but I am not giving it up.

As soon as I get it I'll be posting here.

Thanks for your help.

I dl Maximus Arcade frontend to see how it works with kawaks. It loads kawaks fine and when you hit esc to exit. It minimzes kawaks then you hit esc again to return to the frontend. I assume it runs some sort of batch file to pause emulation and exit. Anyone know I how I can add this with gameex? How would I use keystrokes in a batch file?

Ok i'm one step further to making this work. This may only apply to I-Pac users, but what exactly happens with player 1 and player 2 start buttons are held? I understand it exits the emulator and returns back to gamex. But what keys is it sending? Can send keys be applied to the return of gamex instead of when starting an emualtor?

hmm email me your config for this and any base info you have and I'll get it working if its at all possible.

*Update*

Okay I got it figured out...just need to regex a clrmamepro.dat file to get the required info I need....and then we should be golden...so maybe tonight if I feel frisky. :)

I might create a UltraEdit macro...since there maybe issues....I have 1.55 roms...and 1.56 exe...and not sure if WinKawaks creates its ClrMAMEPro.dat off whats in the exe...or whats in your roms folder....I'm a newbie to this stuff so be nice. :) So with the macro...ideally if one owns UltraEdit they could create the files they need personally rather than what ever I end up uploading...as I may not be around to support things some time in the future...and I certainly don't want to babysit. ;)

Anyways head way is being made and should be able to be tested in an hour or so if all goes good.

Oh the ClrMAMEPro.dat is created strictly from the executable...as it lists 489 drivers where I currently only have 453...doh!

*Update*

1.0 UltraEdit Macro for ClrMAMEPro.dat created by WinKawaks is now final...barring any issues that is. ;)

1.1 Fixed some minor issues with the macro, and added Create_INI.au3 to create required ini files

1.2 Added INI zip for those that do not own UltraEdit

1.3 fuck...now working...tho still needs work...marked as beta...ini's are temp GameEx parsing issue so I'll have to redo my macro to fix things.

1.4 Placed INI tags to end of naming (NeoGeo, CPS1, CPS2) Prepackaged 1.55 & 1.56 game ini's, corrected UltraEdit Macro, Changed Kill button to ESC

1.5 Added prepackaged 1.54 game ini's...that should be enough builds to cover most people out there.

*Note*

This will be updated from now on in the config thread....at the time of this writing its not believed to be final...but very close.

Thanks for the work. I can get gameex to load roms fine from winkawaks. The problem is exiting back to gameex doesnt always work. Sometimes it returns to gameex and sometimes not. Winkawaks does have command line usage. I no longer have to use a shortcut to launch games. I figured out how to run it thru the .exe file. You shouldn't need a wrapper. When it does return to gameex winkawaks is still running in the background. If I could just kill the winkawaks service when enterning back into gameex.

I did notice in the gameex config under emulators. There is an option to "Launch After" command. I thought I could just use the windows killtask for winkawaks here. But it doesnt work. I figure it works when it sees the emulator has closed. Or I'm doing something wrong.

Well the wrapper I have there allows one to kill the process via a hot key...currently BACKSPACE.

Yeah "Launch After" is for when a process is no longer active...and since WinKawaks.exe would be still running...it would be pointless as you already noted.

Well share the wealth of info about the commandline stuff...could go a long ways.

Open up the configuration utility for gameex. Go to where you have winkawaks setup under emulators. In the "command line:" prompt use this string "winkawaks" [rom] -fullscreen. Make sure you have the quotes around winkawaks. That was they key. The rest of the setup is just the same as any other emulator. Point to your rom paths, snap, titles etc. Now "Map Keys:" Yes. Allows me to enter back into gameex sometimes. Its iffy. If someone could create a batch file that would kill a service when esc. was used. This may solve this problem. Thx for all the help btw.

Well there is progress...as I now know what you need....which is simple enough...and I also know what I need to do for how I want things.

Ideally nether should take to long....but I'm updating my wordfile for UltraEdit since a newer version of AutoIt is out and we got a bunch of new toys that I may try out...so its nice to have syntax highlighting working corretly to let you know you screwed up the spelling. ;)

Any ways no worries...should be done tonight if not in the next hour or so.

*Update*

1.1 Here is your required file, with source code.

This is to be launched from the "Also Launch:" field in the GameEx control Pannel...!!NOT!! "Launch Before:" because it will cause you system to hang....sorta

1.2 Fixed it to be cab safe enjoy

Hot key is set to ESC to kill the application.

Hehe now to finish up my method. :)

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much. Works perfect. Exactly what I needed. You da MAN! I know how to do simple batch files but couldn't figure how to apply the escape key to excute command.

Well batch scripts are great for DOS....but really learn AutoIt...it does every thing batch scripts do...matter fact you can even use batch script commands and such in AutoIt...just has to be done in a certain way is all.

AutoIt is way more powerful...and easier to learn...thats part of the reason I share source code...so people can see how things are done...and frankly how simple it is.

Hey Nologic, Howard on BYOAC made a good point about using ProcessClose (), which is not a very clean way to close an app. It's probably best to try the SendMessage with WM_CLOSE command first, then after a timeout check if it's still around and then use ProcessClose(). Just thought I'd mention it since I thought it was a good idea.
