Ok Here's my question. I have two control swapable contro panels, one with standard layout, the other with trackball.

Both use different interfaces wiz49 on one, optipac on the other.

I need to switch the MAME cfg settings for each game depending on the control panel being used, as well as changing the GameEx interface keys. I also would like to have different GameEx Favorites listed (not much point in listing missile command without a trackball.)

At present I have two copies of Gameex installed and two versions of mame.

Clicking on one gameex app will open the settings for trackball the other for the regular control panel.

Is there a better way to do this? I notice that the config utility does not work for the second gameex intall even though its in the same folder and I had to modify the Gameex settings file manually. Otherwise it seems to work ok.

From the GameEx FAQ:

Q: Are there any command line options for GameEx.exe

A: Yes, you can specify a different configuration file to use by using config=

eg. gameex.exe config="c:\program files\gameex\config\myconfig.ini"

-quick has the same affect as setting gameex to not play the startup video, intro animation and intro sound. e.g. C:\program files\gameex\gameex.exe -quick

-listupdate makes GameEx update the MAME game list then exit. e.g. gameex.exe -listupdate.

-dvd launches GameEx as a stand alone DVD player, and starts playing an inserted disc.

What I would do:

Configure GameEx to match your first controller. Create a copy of that .ini-file and rename it to trackball.ini

Reconfigure GameEx to your second controller. Rename a copy to dualsticks.ini (or whatever fits your need).

Repeat for every other controller.

Create a shortcut for GameEx for each ini using the gameex.exe config=[insert path to ini here] as above.

Done.
