OK

I've a problem with mame. I downloaded mame rom from globalroms.com (I'm a member).

.ZIP rom file contains groups of a rom. For example PUCKMAN.ZIP rom contains PACMAN MIDWAY,

PUCKMAN SET 1, PACMAN BOOTLEG ....). When I start mame 0.106 recognizes the group of rom automatically (original and clones). I update list of Gameex mame but only recognizes original rom

(gameex list of all mame games).

Can be made something to make to recognize also the clones?

Thank you

Look in your GameEx configuration setting. Make sure clones is not set as a filter.

I may be wrong, but thats what this forum is here for right? Ever since this new version, my GameEx has been EXTREMELY slow and unresponsive. I've found that I have to hold down my arrows before the program recognizes the input and updates the screen to the next menu option. If I don't time it just right, it goes flying off and beyond my wanted option, causing me to hold the opposite direction. This is true with every key, be it a letter (to jump to a spot in the list), arrow keys, enter, escape, and is also true with all my controllers and even the MCE Remote. I've never had a problem with GameEx doing this before, so I know it has to be something recent. The only change that I've made is I've started replacing my roms with GoodMerge versions. If GoodMerge is causing the slow down, I'll go back to the way it was. If it's not, then what else could it be?

This may be related to GameEx hunting for snapshots like you mentioned in your other post.

What you dont say above crucially though is in what screens the slow down is occuring, if its just while in the game lists and the start page etc is not affected that could be why. You also say slow but you may mean just unresponsive, but is everything in GameEx slow? Are the menu animation transitions smooth?

Read the sticky about performance, and try turning off the find snapshots option, or make sure the snapshots match the game names.

I noticed a longer slowdown when loading game lists, but the problem is global within the program. It starts the moment the Start Page loads. The animations are fine once I select an option.

I know about that sticky, and really don't think it's related to anything in there. The reason is, I've never had this problem before. It's only recently happened. And in fact, I don't think it did it with this version before today. I just added a second rom set in GoodMerge format, and thats when I noticed it, when I wanted to test that set.

Is the selector bar animation running slow or normal? How much RAM do you have in your system?

I got 1gb ram, and it the animation bar seems to be normal. I know, its crazy. Everything works fine, just the actual navigation seem really slow.

I just discovered that the problem I'm having does NOT affect my gamepad controller. It only affects my keyboard and my MCE remote. Go figure.

I noticed that going back to Gameex after playing a mame game takes alot longer than it used to, but that is the only slowdown for me. I think it started about 2 versions ago.

the faster startup farkin rocks. i didnt thank you properly for that before tom (mainly cos i didnt upgrade straight away like usual cos prev 6.3x was so stable :))

anyway, as above, on the return to gameex i can count to about 6 now.. which is about as fast as its ever been for me.

Quicker startup

I remember Microsoft doing questionaires before about what features users of Windows would like the most, and faster bootup times was consistantly one of them.

Posted

faster bootup on the PCs i could care less about, since i leave them on all the time. fast startup of gameex OTOH matters because as the HTPC comes out of standby (suspend to RAM) almost the whole wait is gameex loading. and when you want to watch a film/game etc. on htpc you want it NOW baby not later like you're using a computer.

hmm ok just a rant there. gameex is good.

but i'd still appreciate faster return to gameex from apps, for the same reasons.. the wait is disconcerting to users, they thing something's gone wrong.
