I'm using the psx emulator version 1.6 to run playstation games.

While I only have a collection of 5 or 6 games I'm having trouble with some of them. The games show up in GameEx however when I go to launch some of them they lock up.

An example of this is Resident Evil (Director's Cut). If I lauch this CD image directly from the psx emulator it loads up just fine. If I use GameEx to launch the game it locks up every time.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Street Fighter Alpha 3 load and run just fine though.

Is anyone else out there using this emulator and if so are you having similar issues? I've played around with different settings in GameEx (wait times, send keys, show desktop, etc.) but nothing seems to work. Or maybe there are some options that I should be adding to the psxfin.exe path?

(Please note that I am not referring to epsx which I know is a different emulator)

Oops... double post... sorry bout that.

You know, of course, that some games just don't work?

There is a compatability section in the psx forum. Check there first.

You can also see the tested list here.

If your game is supposed to be working but isn't, I'll need a bit more info on your end.

Thanks. :)

This game is listed as working in the pSX compatability list and like I said it does launch fine when launching it straight from the psxfin executable. However, launching it from GameEx causes it to lock up.

I know that my GameEx settings are okay since it will launch other games for this emulator just fine.

I'm curious if there are some switches/options that need to be added to the command line that gameex calls when launching this game.

Anyway, I've got another post going in the psx forums as well so I'll see if that drums up any info.

I doubt this problem is related to anything in GameEx. I was mostly just fishing to see if any one else out there uses GameEx as the frontend for the psx emulator and if they encountered any similar problems.

Adultery, you seem to know a little about psx. Do you use it inside GameEx and if so do you ever have problems launching games?

*Edit*

Here is a link to the other thread if that helps

First: try adding -r to the command line before you launch Resident Evil. Not sure if that will help, but I don't have that ROM or disc so I can't test it. However, that option makes it possible for me to run some games that wouldn't run otherwise. :)

Second: Yes, I have been using both ePSXe and pSX in GameEx since I started using GameEx. :) I prefer to use pSX wherever possible and only have ePSXe installed for back-up (like for playing Suikoden II and a handful of other FMV games that won't run in pSX). I haven't had a problem launching any games in pSX (unless of course they don't work). If you're just starting out with it I'd be more than happy to help you get it up and running.

By the way... I rip my games to my HD and compress them with the .cdz tool if I'm using GameEx. If I'm playing directly from the disc itself, I use pSX directly (since I don't know how to set it up to run as 1 game... This is also why I am not able to use Chankast although I really want to!)

Hope that helps. :)

.:EDIT:. I noticed an error in your post on the pSX forum: My config looks like this:

COMMAND LINE: psxfin.exe -f -r "[ROMPath]\[RomFile]"

As he mentioned you need the quotes inserted. I also keep the -r fix in all the time since it doesn't affect games that work. :)

Not exatly sure - I think it may be some sort of resolution fix for games that have FMV. It's helped me through some tough spots in Breath of Fire 4.

Hope that helps! :)

Okay... In case this jogs anyone's memory.... here is a screenshot of where GameEx locks up loading up games. It's really weird. As I said before the game will load up fine in psx but for some reason it bombs out here.

I'll keep digging but if any other psx users out there have seen this screen I'd love to hear what you did to get it working.

I have both Chankast and EpsxE running sucessfully through gameex using Batch files

I use deamontools to Mount my ISOs.

Ive attached screen shots and sample batch files.

Just edit the batch files to reflect the correct paths.

It took me a while to get this working I hope it works for you as well.

also disable the securemode in deamon tools otherwise when you mount an ISO via command line it prompts you for an ok.

The fourm wont let me upload batch files... I understand why...I will post the contents.

PSX

@ECHO OFF

c:

CD "c:\program files\daemon tools\"

daemon.exe -mount 0, "G:\Games\psx\ISONAME.nrg"

g:

CD "G:\Console\psx\epsxe160"

epsxe.exe -nogui

Dreamcast

@ECHO OFF

g:

"G:\Console\Dreamcast\ChankastAlpha025\chankast_launch.exe" -delay secs -screen 1024x768 -fullscreen -capcomhack -zwritealpha -cpu 108 -showstats -daemon "c:\program files\daemon tools\daemon.exe" 0 "G:\Games\Dreamcast\GAMEDISC\GAMEDISC.cdi"

Have Fun
