Greego Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 I bought Dragon"s Lair so I am trying to get Daphne to run it in Gameex. It won't run. All I get is a black screen. When I check the Daphne_log it says: Now, I have already downloaded the Daphne loader from the website and set up dragon's Lair 1 and 2 as well as Space Ace to run on my PC but I want everything running thriough Gameex. I have 2 folders on my desktop: 1 for the Daphne files such as the Daphne.exe and another for the Daphne Roms for all the above games which are in zipped. I am not sure where in the Setup Wizard I am supposed to put the path for the roms. I did a Google search and the most helpful info I could find was some posts by Brian Hoffman in the Gameex fourm https://www.gameex.info/forums/topic/3860-daphne-configuration-tutorial/#comment-22960 This helped me a bit but I still don't understand the setup process in the wizard. Can someone please further enlighten me? --DAPHNE version 1.0.12 --Command line is: daphne.exe lair vldp -fullscreen -x 640 -y 480 -nohwaccel -framefile R:\ARCADE\Daphne\lair_HD\lair_hd.txt --CPU : GenuineIntel 3600 MHz || Mem : 2048 megs --OS : Windows NT Derivative || Video : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti --OpenGL: Compiled In --RGB2YUV Function: MMX --Line Blending Function: MMX --Audio Mixing Function: MMX Setting screen width to 640 Setting screen height to 480 Set 640x480 at 32 bpp with flags: 80000000 Initializing sound system ... For your Daphne games options it gives a path with laserdisc in it. Do you keep your DVD in the drive in order to play each game? I thought all you needed was the roms on the pc and you didn't need the laserdisc to play the games through Gameex. I say this because if you noticed the last lines of my Dapphne_log posted above, it says: " Could not open framefile : R:\ARCADE\Daphne\lair_HD\lair_hd.txt Could not initialize laserdisc player! "
cnells2000 Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 Im actually using ripped files not the disc. so if you're doing it in that manner, i could'nt begin to tell u how to do that.

I am not sure how Gameex is finding your Dragon's lair roms to play them.

Well, I used the Daphne_loader which pretty much put the roms onto my pc it seems. After it placed the roms on my pc, I can play each games without having my disc in the disc drive. I just start up daphne on my desktop and pick a game and it will run. The challenge if for me to get it going in Gameex though.
cnells2000 Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 im using a separate storage (D Drive) to store all my large daphne files. i use my c drive as a location where i want daphne to look for my framefiles. you dont have to do it that way. I just do. the text in the framefile directs daphne and gameex to search in the d drive because thats where i have it set to.

In my Daphne folder, there is a subfolder titled "framefile" but there is nothing in it. I wonder if that is the issue.
cnells2000 Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 info about the file is supposed to be in it. its the data from the mpeg files...but ur using a disc and ive never done that before....maybe someone else will jump to this topic??

I say this because if you noticed the last lines of my Dapphne_log posted above, it says: " Could not open framefile : R:\ARCADE\Daphne\lair_HD\lair_hd.txt Could not initialize laserdisc player! " Have you managed to run Daphne games in GameEx? I always get headaches with Daphne, but here's what I think: - Daphne doesn't need any DVD in the drive to run games. The related DaphneLoader program is supposed to download automatically all the files you need to play a supported game. Some games (Dragon's Lair, Dragon's Lair II Time Warp, Space Ace and Thayer's Quest) require a valid DVD to trigger the downloads, but even these games will download the actual game files, so after you've triggered the download, you don't need to keep the DVD in the drive. Daphne never runs anything from those DVDs, it only uses them for verification the first time. - In my personal experience, that kind of error message always tells me that either the filename or the path of the framefile is wrong. It's a no-brainer, but you should first of all check that you really have a framefile called "lair_hd.txt" at that path location. - DaphneLoader and GameEx can point to different framefiles, so if your games work from DaphneLoader but not from GameEx, it probably just means you have to change the path or filename in GameEx settings. See cnells2000 pictures above, there's a section Daphne Games -> Options, this is the strings for the Daphne.exe command line. If you put here some -framefile flag followed by a path/filename string, this will tell Daphne where to look for the framefile of the current game. However, the name "lair_hd" raises my suspicion... have you tried to run Dragon's Lair from DaphneLoader, or only from the DVD? I am thinking that maybe you have the HD version of the Dragon's Lair DVD. Daphne doesn't support the HD version (it also generally doesn't support all the possible DVD versions, there are several). By "support" here I mean that Daphne will not trigger the download of all necessary Dragon's Lair files unless you put one of the supported DVD versions in the drive, and the HD version is not one of them. So it might be that you still don't have the necessary files in Daphne to play Dragon's Lair through it In this case, I think the only thing you could do to play Dragon's Lair from GameEx, is to put it under Windows games instead of under Daphne games, and simply launch a shortcut to it. You will definitely need the DVD in the drive in this case however.
