there are two main codec's DivX and XviD

XviD is Probly the best but can be hard to get workin right as there are so many veriants of it

it isnt realy down to compression its down to the bit rate of the video, i dont think you can actuly change the compression ratio, i have never seen an option to do this. Obviously the higher the bit rate the better quality picture you "should" Have, this will be down to the Quality of the original source

Since we're on the topic.....

I downloaded some of the Video Snaps from EMU, and they're encoded in DIVX. I put them in the right folder and they play in the stand alone player but in Game Ex, when I get to a game that has a Video Snap, Game Ex just minimizes back to the Desktop and all I get is sound from the Video.

Is there some setting to enable Divx in Game Ex, cause other types of AVI's work fine.

I have the divx decoder installed BTW.

Thanks

This is a very common problem.. you need to uninstall the offical DivX codec and install the ffdshow daily build instead.

Thanks, that did it. I didn't think it was a common thing (just something I did wrong) So I didn't search for it.

Thanks Again

it starts to work and when i exit it after a few games to check,

it comes up blank

so i go to the folder where it is stored and the file is there but it contains no data (0kb)

There's a bug in the encoder in the latest daily build of FFDSHOW. Dont work for me either.

I don't know which other versions work but I know this one works well: ffdshow-20050303-sse.exe

The videos are scaled down a lot, to save on space and make things fast. They should look OK when viewed within GameEx as the snap preview is only small. You may get better quality by running the emulator at a higher or lower resolution. You can also adjust the quality the encoder uses, when choosing the compression method. There should be a button there to change settings, then you can adjust the quality or bitrate. Generally a higher bit rate means better quality.
