using downloaded snapshots - must i rename my roms?

i've seen that there are websites in which you can download 100s of snapshots for the snes/megadrive etc.

if i download these files, will i have to rename all my roms to the same name as the snapshots, or does gameex read the rom name & not the file name?

They have to match... Kinda tricky, but if you download roms in GoodSet format, most screenshots use that format too.

He's right. Also, you can go to zophar.net and get the GoodGUI utility to rename all your snaps and ROMs for nearly every console.
