Hi

I've seen some posts about some of the issues regarding the filtering that GameEx does and I'm having a similar problem. I'm using Mame .106 (and/or Mame32 .106). I'm using GameEx 6.31. I have 6158 valid ROMs that have been verified with ClrMamePro.

The following are the, I think, applicable filters I have set/unset in Advanced Mame Settings:

--Only working games-yes

--Allow imperfect games-yes

--Verify roms-no

--Only existing roms-yes

--Use game filter-no

--Gimme the porn

--No mahjong games

--I want clones

After updating my game list, I get 4897 games. Do I really have ~1300 Mah Jong games? What type of numbers are other people seeing?

I just went back and enabled Gimme Mahjong. Ran the 'update game list' and now I have 5118. Where are the other 1000 games?

Thanks.

You arn't filtering JA EU and all those?

BTW, I understand wanting it to function correctly... but why do you care for all the versions? or are you actually missing certain games? Also, try checking the mame roms directory... perhaps you have some ROM file types that MAME32 sees but GameEx does not.

In mame32 I have the filter set to NOT display not working games. That gives me a total of 5386 games. The ones that are not working are blocked which is like 6140. In game ex I get 5036 or close to that. So you might want to look in mame32's filters like the above poster said.

No, I'm not filtering Japan, Germany, etc. I turned that off (see below).

Re: all the versions. No I actually don't want all these displayed. The initial problem that I ran into was I couldn't find Solomon's Key. This led me to disable the 'use game filter...Japan' as this ROM is marked as Japan [great game, btw for those unfamiliar].

Anyhow, I was pointing this out to make sure that there's not an error somewhere in GameEx that's preventing some games from displaying properly. There might be a game in that 1000 that I would like to play, but I won't know of it until I try and track it down and find it missing. I'm merely curious as to why 1000 games are missing. It doesn't really bother me, I just wanted to point it out for the record and, like I said, to make sure that this isn't indicative of something else wrong.

I did check my Mame roms directory and I see 6158 games listed in there. All have been rebuilt/checked/verified by ClrMamePro.

Thanks.

What I mean is, are you missing EVERY copy of game X or just X(JA)? Is it a range of games? ie, AbcX-AbdX.

Since you know Solomon's Key isn't showing in GameEx, first look at the ROM file. How is it packaged? Is it like all the others? Second, are the ones around it showing, the range thing, or is it more sporadic? Maybe find a game with multiple version, such as X(USA) and X(JA), is it showing either?(Impossible to test unless you find another game that is missing, range thing again).

I've never used ClrMAME, nor am I a huge MAME fan, but I know for things like Genesis and GameBoy, and N64 the ROMS come in many file types, .v64 .p64 .n64 .rom .zip... maybe gameex isn't seeing one of the file types. In windows if you sort the files by type then go to the top or bottom of explorer you should be able to compare the file types. See if Solomons Key is like the others.

Just an added thought.. I've not downloaded the CHDs for MAME yet. These are the hard drive files that the more recent games use. You may have the ROMs if you downloaded them from a torrent or something, but the CHDs you may not. This might be why you're showing all the games, because they're not in your list of available, since they don't work. I found a torrent with CHDs I'm going to start getting a week or so. It's around 48gb in size. So needless to say, you don't have them unless you KNOW you have them.

Also, fRESH_OiL has a point about the extensions/file types. Make sure you're not setting a specific rom filter for those. IE, don't use *.zip. Just leave it blank. Some ROM's may not be zipped, or they may be in a different format. MAME will recognize them, but GameEx won't if you're limiting a rom type.

I was away for a bit, but now I'm back and I've found some specific games that aren't in the "master list".

If I turn off all the filters (porn/mah jong/etc.), I'm getting 5118 games in the master list.

I just turned on "no mah jong" and it gave me 4897. That is the only filter I have in place.

The games that I know are missing?

Virtua Figher 2, 3, Kids, etc.

The only Virtua Fighter game that shows up in the list is Virtua Fighter (the first). I have the following roms (verified as correct and tested through command line Mame):

ls -al vf*

-rw-r--r-- 1 jimmatt jimmatt 201902 Jun 12 19:40 vf2b.zip

-rw-r--r-- 1 jimmatt jimmatt 195836 Jun 12 19:40 vf2o.zip

-rw-r--r-- 1 jimmatt jimmatt 13747328 Jun 12 19:44 vf.zip

Star Wars Trilogy is another game that's not showing up in the list, but, I think, should be.

I have clones turned off (Gimme the Clones), so I would expect all of the VF games to show up in the list. How come they're not showing up? I just rebuilt by game list, so it's not that.

I found another missing game, Guilty Gear X. I can't figure out what the common thing is between all of the games that are not showing up in the All Mame Games list. Is there a way to turn on debug to see what's being used to create the game list (Update List command)?

Thanks.

I think our problem here is that GameEx may be pulling down a "working" game list from the internet somewhere when the game list is updated. Those that aren't working, are automatically not included. I suggest this because I noticed to that I don't have Star Wars Arcade or Star Wars Trilogy either, but I have the roms. I looked in my Mame32+ GUI, and it doesn't show up in the working games list. However, if you go down to the list for "non-working" it shows a lot of games there, of which both Star Wars games were present. I tested them, and they launched ok, but they obviously weren't "working". So my suggestion here is to either set the option to "NO" where it says "Only working games". That should help, but you'll run into games that aren't working. Another thing, which we'll have to wait for Tom's confirmation on, is to find out how/where GameEx is getting it's games list from. It's obviously not just pulling a directory listing from the /roms directory. I don't know what else to suggest.

Now for a slightly on/off topic discussion of my own problem. I'm not able to play games that ARE listed in my game list. For example.... Pac-Man. It's listed under ALL MAME GAMES, but when I play it, it just goes to a black screen, waits about 3 seconds, then returns back to the list. I get the same thing happening in my screensaver/attract mode. Of all the games I have, it seems like only about 300 actually work through GameEx.

Make sure allow only working roms option is set to false.
