Stuck rebuilding game list

This happens both in MAME 32 and GAME EX

When i attempt to audit or refresh the games list so i can choose from more games in mame 32 it gets through most of the roms then hangs until a cancel it. it doesn't get to the samples.

In GAME EX it gets to 55% on 'verify.dat' or something of a similar name and hangs until I forcively end the process, the load graphic still says back and forth but the progress itself stops going up. So it seems the program is still active it just stops doing the assigned function.

can anyone thing of why this might be? if I audit the newest games I get one by one in mame 32 it works fine. this only happens when i try to do it to the full batch.

It can take a while to do the verify in GameEx, but you can turn it off. Change the option under Advanced MAME settings in the configuration application.
