Hi all.

Im keen to give this a try but Im not to sure about how to configure the Mame settings.

I read in the FAQ that I must update the MAME, ROM and Snap paths, along with the name of your MAME executable. Do I already have a Mame ececutable (is that just an emulator??) or something else. What is a Snap path . I looked in Config but dont have much of an idea yet.

Thanks I know these must sound totally silly to some but Id be appreciative for any help.

Cheers.

Hi.

MAME itself is the emulator that runs the ROMS (which are the games). Snaps are another name for SCREENSHOTS. Basically what you want to do, is tell GameEx where all these files are located. So the MAME path is the folder where MAME is located, ROMS would be the ROMS for MAME, and SNAPS would be the screenshots. When it's looking for the executable, this is the file that actually RUNS MAME. Its usually just mame.exe. If you have some of the newer versions with a Graphical User Interface (gui) then you want to use the file that's not the gui. For instance.. MAME+ has 2 files, mamep.exe and mamepgui.exe. The first is the executable you want, and the second is for it's own built in GUI/frontend.

Hope this helps some, feel free to use the [sEARCH] option in the forums for further help, read the documentations, and reply back with further questions if need be. This forum is visited constantly by MANY helpful people who are very eager to help (now don't call me a liar guys! ^_^) You should be able to get up an running very quickly and easily.

Thanks Han, :)

I d/l mame32 and some mame roms and got it showing roms and everything. I think most of the roms for it look like really old games though. Ill have a go at adding different emulators later.

My only problem now is getting any input to work within the roms.

My game pad and remote work fine in GameEx but when I load a rom I can't start the game or move or anything. the rom looks fine, I just cant do anything (except "escape")

Any pointers?

Thanks, -almost playing games:)

You probably just need to configure mame32 to see your gamepad. This is done through the mame32 options not the GameEx options (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). Also, if you want to use a keyboard to play games typically you can bring up the options for the games by hitting the TAB key once a rom is loaded. From there you will see a page of options that you can adjust.

Thanks Mike,

Figured as much with the mame32 settings, just waiting for big streaming d/l to finnish cos I think i need to restart before it will work. Nice tip on the tab key will try that now.

I have a couple more questions

first; I added zsnes to play snes roms (this is what I've been using in the past), Is it right that it is in the "more Programs" area and not on the main menu list? The roms for zsnes also only appear as usual in the zsnes program itself and not in a list in gamex, just wondering, it would be cool to have it run as mame does in gameex.

Secondly; I have a media center pc so ive got a monitor and a tv hooked up. the graphics are all off the sides and not alligned properly(within the roms). Sometimes a game will look right on the monitor and be all swrewy on the tv, sometimes the opposite and sometimes neither will be right. I had a fiddle with the "x axis, Y axis" config in gameex but couldnt see any change. im thinking this is another mame32 setting but cant find any apart from the stretch to full screen option. any suggestions?

Thanks.
