Real DMD vs. Monitor LCD DMD

First off, I'd like to say hello to all. I'm extremely new to the virtual pinball scene but I'm just about ready to jump headlong into it.

I showed my mother-in-law a video of a virtual pinball machine as they are currently in the process of building on a game room on their house. She was so enthralled with this concept that she has commissioned me to build her one (I'm quite PC savvy).

I'm trying to get everything ready so that I can get an itemized list of the things she'll need to buy.

So far I've got this for the PC:

Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive

As far as the displays are concerned, this is where I'm having trouble. I think she wants a play field around 42"-46" and maybe a 27-32" backboard, but for the DMD - i'm confused. I like the look of the 3rd LCD monitor rather than the original DMD looks. Mostly because the animations are more smooth, and they are in color. I understand the "originality" factor in all of this - and I'm sure I'll probably get shot down as it seems most every thread I've read they say that the Vishay's are superior to a plain old monitor.

Is there any reason, besides making it look as close to original as possible, that one would pick a Real DMD over a monitor that is in place of a DMD?

Any and all criticisms are welcome - as I stated I'm a complete newbie and could use the guidance.

I have never used a real DMD screen but I have to say that I'm quite impressed with the quality of a good LCD screen. I have an older 17" LCD (that was free) and it has vibrant, nice colors for the DMD videos. I really like being able to apply different color settings for different roms too, they look great.

I also have a LCD monitor 17", works perfect and to be able to colorize different tables DMD's is a neat feature which is not possible with a real DMD.

I believe that a real DMD is brighter and have a higher intensity than any LCD also, it enables the cabs top to go down as designed while (in my case anyways) how the LCD mounts the monitor populates a bit in the main body which would make it crack. But I take the monitor out when folding is needed (3 times in 10 years) :')

I say: go with a inexpensive LCD and upgrade later if you feel the need.

Thanks for the comments - I was thinking along the same lines. This would probably be the cheapest, and in my opinion, better looking option. And for the LCD you don't need extra connectors and stuff right? As long as your graphics card will allow 3 monitors it should be fine, correct?

Does anyone have a good Start to Finish guide for a whole build? Computer stuff, Cab stuff, putting the 2 together? I've looked and it's usually one or the other and often times there's several steps missing. She wants it to sound like a real pinball machine too so I'll need to figure out how to set up the contactors, the knockers and all that stuff. Also the nudging function would be great too.

I'd just like to have as many comprehensive steps to follow as possible while building "mine" (not really mine but, i'll probably play it every time i go over there )

Any and all help for a newbie would be greatly appreciated - there's just soooo much!!
