Couldn't agree more :) I bought it coz i do love the system, and Magic Engine really is flawless - it runs everything with no hitches, something that all alternatives came with a plenty. At the time of purchase i just wanted it to work, and ME did just that. I can't say i would do the same with many other systems though, coz they are not as special to me. Each to their own ;)

I would pay for a flawless Jaguar emu though :P

That's why I wasn't willing to go to mednafen. I already hate purely command line stuff enough as it is. Multi controller setup couldn't be easier. Might I remind you I have no issues with ME outside of GameEx. I think charging anything for an emulator is bs though.

If Adultery's VDL is working then all I need is for one of you guys who got ME to (yes) figure out my problem for me. Because I don't know jack sh** about command line stuff. I loathe it. So if you know what commands work for ME then I'm all ears because I give up trying to fix this (which ive been doing endlessly since updating GameEx and DTL).

Unfortunately literally all my emu's and roms are on the ruined external HDD (i think we spoke about it in chat a while back) and i still haven't gotten around to taking it apart :P and as you should know by now my memory isn't at all reliable so can't really test anything solidly till i can retrieve my stuff.

I have vague recollections of needing to get everything set via the GUI first, then simple commands working fine, but again i can't test anything without a full copy of ME

Tell me about it - i've been making do with MAME only for quite a while now. It depresses me thinking about it, all them custom sets i spent months, may be years compiling, sat in a broken box i can't get in to <_<

Anyhoo what's the command you are using for ME? May be something will jog my memory.

That would hurt real bad if that happened to me man

Right now I'm trying this but I'm getting an unmount switch syntax error still. I'm on the newest VDL plugin

pce.exe -cd:E [DTOOLS-SCSI]

So I'm looking at you configs, and I have a couple of questions. Here's what I see:

[Emulator_12]Enabled=TrueSystem=NEC TurboGrafx CDCommand=pce.exe [DTLOADER-SCSI]... [Emulator_13]Enabled=TrueSystem=NEC TurboGrafx CDCommand=pce.exe [DTLOADER-SCSI]

As you know I don't use MagicEngine, but I do know that at least it used to be that you had to specify a drive letter in your command for the CD based systems (as seen in this post, among others)

Finally got this to work tonight. Here's my config in case anyone needs it:
...
Command=pce.exe -cd:D
...
Note that I have a SCSI DT Lite virtual CD drive installed that is drive "D" on my computer and that I'm using .cue and .bin files, not .iso. I've highlighted the most important parts of the config in red.

That was admittedly three years ago, but as I noted earlier, I don't believe MagicEngine has been updated in the intervening time (unless the paid version is different). So let me ask you this, does MagicEngine work for you if you do the following:

  • Manually mount a disc image to the virtual drive you intend to use
  • Open up a command prompt. Start > Type cmd in Search programs and files > click on cmd.exe
  • Type Q: and press Enter
  • Type cd Q:\Emulators\\MagicEngine in the command window and press Enter (I think you might run into an issue here, but this is exactly what GameEx is doing according to your config. If you have an issue on this step, fix up your directory path and run the command again (also make a note to fix it in the Setup Wizard as well))
  • Type pce.exe in the command window and press Enter

Did your game start? If so your command is OK, and your issue lies elsewhere. If it didn't start go back to your command window and do the following:

  • (Repeat the first 4 steps as necessary)
  • Type pce.exe -cd:D except instead of D use the letter of the drive you're using.

Let us know if that works. I think you may just have an issue with your config.

Edit:

It looks like you may already be on the right path. It never hurts to try things manually though. If you're still having difficulty, do be aware that your Working Path may still be causing you issues (the double-slash thing).

2X Edit:

Made a correction to the navigation commands above. Sometimes when I'm working from the DOS prompt of my memory, I miss a step! Corrected now.

I don't think the free version of Daemon Tools lite supports SCSI anymore. There's absolutely no way for me to get it to mount in SCSI mode manually(from what I can see) it will always mount as DT.

EDIT: I found how to manually mount but when I do it says "DAEMON Tools Pro driver error:8194" wtf why do I have to buy the full version of Daemon Tools to SCSI load????!!!!

Does it need to be an SCSI drive? I can't honestly remember.

Well, that's not good. Based on Stigz DaemonTools support saga, I'm thinking the current version of DaemonTools may be a non-starter in terms of emulation. I'm thinking about doing some testing with Virtual CloneDrive or Alchohol 120% / 52%. Originally back in the old days Virtual CloneDrive was the only virtual drive supported natively under GameEx. Does anyone remember why we sort of moved away from that? Was it a spyware issue or something? I can't quite remember, but it was something like that.

I think so but who knows? This post (which is more recent) says yes, whereas this one says no.

@Ubes - check your PMs in a minute.

Yeah i'm slightly suspicious too because your second link was around the time i went through all this and got it working. Also your first link was before all this DT Lite v5 debacle. With what's been going on lately, with Adultery's plugin, and the increased rate at which members are experiencing problems with Daemon Tools, i fear it's not reliable anymore. Which means we all need to find an alternative.

Or just stick to an older version of it. I really liked the old DT. The new one is just ass.

YES!!!! I downgraded to a older version of DT and my PC-Engine game started immediately! :D I knew my commands were right! Screw DT5!

Awesome! Grats man! It seems DT5 is just a pile of screw-everyone-up though, it's causing problems across the board, so it's about time we as a community find a solid alternative. WHEW! Is it party time? I think so :)

Want me to mark resolved and lock?

Yep, and I'd also like to confirm that my Sega Saturn games mount as well without issues! :) only thing is DT mounts the image 2 times. I think thats the delay mount thing Adultery put into his new plugin. But it works so no complaints. I'd consider this resolved my friend!

Solution is to stay on a lower version of DT or switch to another program.

@Null: Either VCD didn't support bin/cue or it only supported bin/cue. I can't remember which.

@uber: Setting those values to zero should disable that delay.
